Default Black Widow vs Black Code

Anybody have opinions on which is better? In playability, durability, and tension maintenance? Trying to decide which to use as my mains in my APDGT, I'm using X1 in the crosses

Black widow by a country mile (for me). Fantastic spin at the price of durability and tension If you're looking at these two, check out Big Hitter Black 7

LOL four hours and 15 min, huh? Not sure what your game is like, but your ability to detect strings going bad on you down to the minute is fairly impressive.

For me , I used both as full set up and as crosses with natural gut.

And Black Widow is so, but SOOOO low powered, but it has great bite of the ball, while black code has a plastic feel but has a great "pop" and feeling when you hit the ball, and has a great power.

So it depends of what you are looking for.

Right now I like a low power polys to cross with my natural gut, right now i have klip legend 16 and silverstring and I´m loving it.

Thumbs up

I moved from Red Code to Black Code to RPM Blast to Black Widow, all 17 gauge. I'm a 4.5. Black Widow cuts like no other string I've used. It puts more spin on the ball. Power is lessened somewhat, along with durability and tension maintenance, but the ball jumps like crazy! Try it!

I think these are fair assessments. Great string combo too. Big fan of gut crossed with Silverstring

I agree with the comments from those that like Black Widow. The 1st time I tried a hybrid of BW and Silk on my Bio 200 Tour and the ball just cuts and I was like " Damm this is how it should be!".

For two hours black widow is one of my top 3, problem is it drops a lot and doesn't seem to settle in a range and stay. That's full bed. Black code is ok but similar in its loss of performance quickly.

I have never played a poly that has more spin than the black widow.
It's so low powered and spinny, all my shots were looping high and landing on the service line. For my shots to go deep, I had to hit much harder than usual.

What really freaked me was the occasional "drop shots" from my topspin FHs from the baseline! It's madness.

If you have a strong swing (I really mean strong and powerful) and you are looking for something to rein in your shots. Look no further...

Otherwise, the black code is just much more playable for the average joe.

Just to name a few of recent strings I have been experimenting and playing this year. Nothing from Lux Alu Power, MSV CoF, SPPP, Yonex PolyTour, Technifibre BC, BHB7, shaped or non shaped, rough or smooth is even close to the Black Widow in terms of spin.

Black widow strung in the low 50's is plenty powerful and it is so crazy spinny... I keep going away from this string in favor of something else but it keeps pulling me back because of its awesome spin.. honestly there has been no string I've found that provides more and its so soft and arm friendly to boot

Hi All

I like Black Widow and usually string at 58lbs and it stabilizes at about at about 41lbs.

If you are not a string breaker like me, at what tension do you string and what would be your stabilized actual tension as measured by Tourna Stringmeter or equivalent ?

Cheers !

I've put approx 4hrs into Black Code 18 @ 62/60lbs and I really, really like it. It feels quite elastic with great ball pocketing and it definitely feels like it's enlarged the sweetspot of my racquet. It has more power than I'm accustomed to but it has good control and when swinging full power, it has tremendous control.
I really like the lively feel, even if it's somewhat plastic-y. Very comfortable too. I was expecting more spin though I'd say it's about the same as my usual Competition 1.20.

I will be attempting Black Widow 18 in the near future.

Black Widow gets a lot more spin and is a lot softer. Black Code is crisp and more durable. If you morphed these strings into one you get the Tourna Big Hitter Black 7. Same spin as Black Widow, but crispness of Black Code.

so what would you be looking for when you want to know if the String have gone out of date?
I hit my groundies with massive topspins and very little flat shot.
I just think if my balls are not going in, I need to add more angle on the shot with my semi western grip to add more spin.

I don't usually change string every 4-5 hours, more like 60-80 hrs.

I'll assume "out of date" means they've gone dead, not obsolete technology
I'll just be looking if the strings have too much power, the strings bouncing the ball more, resulting in loss of control. It may be offering less spin.

Yeah you can adjust your strokes but it's much more difficult to do that when you're in the midst of a match serving 4-5, Love-30!
Years ago I was in love with the RDX500 and during a match in a big tournament I suddenly realized it just flexed way too much. I immediately got the old Pro Staff from the bag and I gave the RDX away to a friend the next day.

Maybe you can adjust your strokes during crunch time, but I refuse to!
I'll be putting more hours into the Black Code 18, I'm not a major string breaker and like my strings to also last me much longer than 4-5hrs too.
