Default Will Alonso reach or pass Michael Schumacher's 7 F1 drivers titles

Now that Ferrari look to be atleast on par with the best cars again, if this can stay this way for several years atleast, I think Alonso could easily challenge and possibly break Schumacher's record of 7 F1 World drivers titles. Everyone knows he is by far the best driver on the grid, so if his career is even on par with the others he will be the clear favorite to win each year. Vettel is the 2nd best driver probably but even he needs a faster car to beat Alonso. Button (as much as I like him), Hamilton, Massa, Webber, are far inferior drivers and would need a much faster car to have a chance of being over Alonso in points.

Did anyone say 'no' yet?

I love Alonso. Not sure I'd agree he's far and away the best driver - Button, Vettel, Kimi, and Hamilton are all very gifted. And who knows what will happen. If Grosjean or some other idiots keep crashing him on the 1st turn he might not win this year - lost almost half his lead. Then there's the 2nd driver situation - if Ferrari brings someone in he doesn't get along with, that could screw him up.

Oh, then there's the Bernie factor - who knows what goofy rule changes he'd bring in if Alonso started dominating.

dont think so, agree with coast, but i dont like him (brilliant driver). just that uni-brow or waxed unibrow now.

If he does i will still say between shumacher and senna are greatest ever - no one will beat these two, doesnt matter what anyone else does, in my mind.

I read somehwere that alonso has a say (not determined say) who's his 2nd driver will be, dont believe ferrari will have a very good 2nd driver which could hurt alonso chances, even though its better for constructors title.

Think when massa goes wont be suprised it perez, grojean, maldonado(has a attitude problem) will take ferrari 2nd seat.

Kimi impressed me the most with his comeback- huge fan best driver in a interview and you know it

Schumi won in a weak era.
At the time Ferrari had more budget than any other team and also they had their #2 driver roll for schumi. Electronics were new in F1 and no other team than Ferrari went that far in electronically improving their cars.

Alonso is a great driver but the new point system wont allow anyone to win several year titles. It's just impossible.

Btw, F1 goat was Senna.
pure reckless driver with awesome class and unique talent

I wouldn't say Senna was reckless, he just had limits which stretched further than everyone else.

Even Schumacher agrees that Ayrton was the best.

I think Alonso is better than Schumacher TBH. Schumacher's last 2 years he lost to Alonso despite Alonso having a car clearly slower than both McLaren and Ferrari. If he reached 6 or 7 titles I would easily consider him easily greater than Schumacher who dominated mostly with a dominant car, Alonso has never had a car much better than all the others and still is regularly contending for championships.

I also agree Senna is better than Schumacher hands down.

Schumi thrived in a weak era. In terms of driving talent it's clear Kimi, Hamilton, Button and Alonso have it.

Alonso has 2 championships. How is he going to catch Schumacher's 7?? Not a chance.

Perhaps drivers will be eliminated entirely before he can pass Shumacher. A drone over Afghanistan can be piloted from Qatar, really no reason to have a driver in a F1 car anymore. It's always been about who's got the better car anyway.

Not a chance. Ferrari isn't as strong as it was before '04.

I doubt somebody will ever break Schu's record.

Alonso is perhaps similary talented, like others in the field (Lewis, Nico, Kimi and Jason come into my mind), but it's a whole new ara now, with many teams competitive enough to win a race. So it's allmost impossible to see such dominance as Ferrari gained back into the early-mid 2000' being reestablished.
