CoPoly Life: Hours playing vs. sitting in closet

If I use a CoPoly, it'll probably be as a cross. I realize this is not as advantageous as having the CoPoly in the mains.

I've read a bit about changing out CoPoly before they die. Does this also apply to strings in the crosses? Because of my work, I may have to leave a racquet strung w/ copoly crosses in the closet for a week or two. When playing it seems like the strings do snap a bit earlier (around 8hrs) which is fine for me as I usually cut them out at 10-12hrs.

some people change out the poly/co-poly in a gut/poly hybrid gut mains, poly crosses. this is not advisable with any other string as other strings dont hold tension the way gut does.(some people dont think its a good idea even with gut) if your going to do this, clamp your racquet in the stringer before cutting out the crosses. dont ever restring the mains and not the crosses.

If the title is what you wanted to know, I can confirm for you that the poly will not die if you don't play with them. Some might tell you it will die if you leave it in the closet but just ignore them. Do note 'dying' does not mean tension loss. I have different types of polys strung but never played for half a year, and play the same as newly strung when I gave them a go.

Yes this is what I was wondering. I string up 2-3 racquets when I have time but usually can't hit till the next week or so.

This discussion has happened many times here. I promise anyone that it's playing hours, not strung hours that count. Over the course of playtesting 4 stringbeds, I might have a racquet strung up for 4 weeks even but only have 3 hours on it. It plays as though it has 3 hours on it. Now if you leave it in the sun, use it as a headrest in the steam room at the club, put it in the freezer or mistake it for a roast and stick it in the oven, then yes, string life may be affected.

I agree it is the hitting on the string that ruins it not sitting in the bag.

I was reluctant to string poly for someone's rarely used backup stick.
I used RIP Control.
Perhaps I need to rethink this, however, this IS Vegas and the racquets get hot just sitting in the bag courtside...in the shade...in May.
