I buy two matched Pure Drives from TW and have them install Babalot Addiction monofilliment at 60 and 58lbs. I play with them for 6 sets. They feel perfect. TW uses a lock out. I want to use Gut so I measure the Strings with my ERT 300 and it says DT 35. I have a wise head so I string both rackets at 62 and 60 and the DT is 38. 24 hours later it is 37. I play 6 sets with both rackets and the DT is then 34. I play with both again tonight 3 sets and the DT is 32 and I am hitting long. A friend of mine says I am stringing the gut too tight and that is why it is loosing so much tension. I have a match this weekend and need to get the rackets right. Should I string the gut around 65 to end up with a DT of 35? Maybe I should buy some addiction but what number to string it at?

If you string at 65 DT should be in the 40's. Although I assume you will be using a high quality NG, 65# is too high IMO. If you are shooting for a DT of 35 you need to pull at lower tension.

The Wise has three speeds for tensioning. I assume you are using the fastest speed. In doing so you will lose more tension because the string is not stretched as long. If you use the slower speed you will have less tension loss. Once you beep goes off indicating you are at the desired tension you can also wait a few extra seconds to give the string more time to stretch out. I'm also assuming your are stringing in the constant pull mode (CP light is on.) if the CP light is not on you are in the lockout mode.

Unfortunately, you are simply not going to get what you are looking for. Remember, the ERT will drop once strung, so it is really going to end up with you chasing your tail. I would advise to simply find a tension you like, and go from there.

OK what tension would you suggest to start from? And I do not get it, maybe gut does not play the smae as a mono at 60 and I might have stretched it to far. do you recommed a prestretch?, lockout or cp, slow or fast pull on my Wise

For my personal gut, I never pre-stretch, it kills the string to a degree, although it tends to hold tension better. I always string with a medium pull on a constant pull.
Again, you are probably over-thinking this. Just find a tension you are comfortable with, and go from there. Good luck.

Good advice Drakulie's. If I had my choice I would always drop the tension a few pounds and pull slowly which puts less stress on everything.

Given that you do not pre-stretch, would you advocate bumping the tension up a pound or two to compensate for the added loss in tension? On my old machine I would pre-stretch my gut, but I just got a new Alpha w/ the Wise that has the 'pre-stretch' option on it. For my first job (which was my racquet, BTW), I didn't manually pre-stretch, but used the Wise option. I haven't hit with it yet, so I don't know how much it will affect loss, but I am curious.

I'm with Drak. People over think most things. It's still trial and error. If it's too tight, drop the tension. If it's too loose, raise it. Make educated guesses to get to where you want it. Eliminate the other variables--like different machines, different strings etc.
