This guy is a very solid player, he's just old and (maybe) homeless, im not sure.
Sounds like a tennis version of The Dude (from The Big Lebowski for the unenlightened).

Yea, that's exactly what I was envisioning while reading those posts...

Sounds like those old tourney tales when college entrants rolled in old vans traveling from town to town. Saw Roger Smith and others Buckeyes roll that way. Guess Sam Querrey rolled in a VW bus. Hope it had a sunroof.

That's funny. Personally, I have to smile when I see guys in league who show up with a 12 racquet bag that contains one racquet, a wristband and a hand towel. It's kind of like a lonely single guy driving to work in a Suburban.

Met a guy like that. Had a racquet, a wristband, a hand towel, and a two-foot long pair of bolt cutters.

If he'd said, "lets get some food before it's all gone," I'd probably get some food with him. If he just left without saying anything and I didn't know why he was gone and he didn't show up for 10 minutes, I would have been upset and probably defaulted him.

Burgers, my achilles heel....
While I love them, they hate me.
Lost plenty of races after eating burgers.
Lost plenty of matches due to eating burgers.
Lost fencing tourney from eating burgers.
Just can't resist them, though.

May leave the court for a few grape leaves, lamb, or chicken kibob w/tahini sauce.

Well, why DO we do our sports?
I'd like to think...self satisfaction.
What's more satisfying than a freshly barbaqued double cheeseburger with all the mixins, a huge helping of fries, and Coke in a bottle, at least a couple?

The sound of that food is convincing me otherwise rather swiftly...

Let's face it... one of the reasons I play tennis is so that I can burn calories so that I can drink beer after tennis without feeling guilty

That is always the real reason, except for me it is just food and not drink.

Exactly why I have a single racquet cover. I'm a 2.5-3.0 with only 1 racquet! I don't want to be known as "that guy" who has a pair of $230 racquets, brand new 12 racquet bag, etc. and then goes out 6-0.

This is sort of like combining all the benefits of bowling with tennis.

Luckily, we have a bar inside the tennis club. And for those on a gluten-free diet, deep-fried cheese curds, http://t1dandglutenfree.com/wp-conte...rds_plated.png

You should try drinking while you play. It's pretty fun. Nothing like a bunch of 3.5 to 4.0-able drunk idiots playing like 3.0's because we cant read the spin on the ball because our eyes are looking in two different directions.

Would not recommend drinking in league matches.

Save it for Sunday free play, and later afternoon/night games. You dont want to be drinking beer at noon during a league match in the blazing sun.

Saw the result of drinking and playing in doubles. Sober forehands tattooing the drunks. Seriously, save the burgers and brats till the match is over. Pretty heavy to play on.
