My highest downloads are usually around 5 GB/month and that is when I'm watching the Grand Slams or college football on my phone.

same here...

I've never gone pass 4 gigs.

'Normal' months when I'm not constantly streaming video, I've never gone over 2 gigs...

Yes, there are 3rd party widget apps, I not yet seen one that works reliably with ICS. How does the iPhone routine work in comparison?

That said, Apple still need to move towards an equivalent to live tiles or widgets to keep up with the competition.
On my HTC, there was a "power manager" widget that was native. Not sure if it was Android specifically, or HTC's skin that made it possible, but I lovvveeeddd that widget. It controlled Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync and screen brightness all from the same place. I'd swipe to my second screen, and then have one touch access to all that stuff. I definitely miss that.

Those are the things I loved about Android. Ultimately it wasn't enough to keep me around, but there were some badass things about their OS. Live wallpapers (even though they kill battery), and widgets were both sweet. Default options were also really nice. Didn't want to use their internet? Cool, download Chrome and set it as a default. It was a good deal.

Fwiw, I agree with you about Apple and Widgets/Live tiles. My stock and weather widgets on the pull down menu on iOS are awesome...I wish they'd add that functionality to the home screens. I think it would really increase the look and feel of the OS, and with as powerful as the phones have gotten, I doubt it would affect performance/smoothness all that much.

That is about the same for me during "normal" months.

You'll be suprised how much bandwith arguing with mikeler on these forums about the stiffness of synthetic gut uses. He's very long winded.

No, its WiFi tethering. It powers my home network as one mobile contract works out cheaper than paying for cheaper mobile contract + landline + broadband service.

Smartphones seem to chew data like your won't believe. My bulk breakdown according to ICS for the last month is something like follows:-

Tethering 40gb (which will feed an InternetTV service)
US Open and some sports streaming 4.5gb
Android OS 1.1gb
Kiescast 0.8gb (basically Samsung's podcast service - I do a fair amount of travelling so need something to listen to)
Audible (0.5gb - travelling again)
Media 0.5gb (no idea what that is)
Internet 0.3gb
Tapatalk 0.25gb (haha!)
Maps 0.3gb (mostly for street maps - travelling again)
And a load of other smaller usage crap.

^ Samsung Galaxy S2. Great phone but everything can always be improved so will be pondering the IP5 or S3 (or whatever is around) when it comes to renewal time next year.

Good one! Tethering explains everything. I'd be curious what my monthly internet bandwidth is. Just last night, I downloaded the latest iOS and also XCode for my Mac. XCode alone I think was 1.6 GB.

I have to know what my bandwidth is since I will be on a 2 gig plan at least to start.

Ok my coworker got the i5 and put it right next to my LTE EVO and did a nice comparison.

The iphone is indeed slimmer..this is very impressive as the new EVO is a slim phone. The iphone is better in terms of pocket fit due to this and the smaller screen. If you put your phone in your front pocket, the iphone beats the droids all day long in terms of fit and not sticking out in your pants.

Difference between snappiness and graphics is surprising. The i5 is far more responsive to me. Granted her phone is 1 day old, but she did load all her apps and everything on it last night. The colors are richer, but what surprised me was the iphone screen was easier to read as well(both phones were set to auto bright). I did not think the EVO screen would be topped ( i prefer it to the s3, as I could have bought either phone when I bought prior) but I was wrong. I had 4 people and all of them instantly noticed that the iphone was far smoother with more depth, so it is not like I have amazing eyes or anything.

As for size. I think I prefer function since the iphone felt so good in my pocket. The EVO takes up a ton of space. To me, that is very important. I have always liked smaller phones, and I remember when the trend was about how small your cell could be (remember the old school motorola flips that looked like a bullet about 10 years ago? - I had one). So first impression is that the iphone screen, while being smaller, actually is more functional this way and I do not think I will miss the huge EVO . In fact, I personally would prefer my touchscreens to stay at 4 inches and be thin. We could argue this all day so I will just say this is my preference and leave it at that.

Played with apple maps. It was very smooth and accurate. Loading time (3d satellite view) was a little slow the more you zoomed around the area, but it looked pretty nice. I know there are issues with it, so I will just use it to locate places for now and use Waze as my GPS.

first impression - I am very impressed with the i5. The wow factor comes more from the first "Q3 2012 smartphone" you try. Pick one - i5, One X, s3, Lumia...whatever - they all are sick and will wow you with how slim and light they are.

The iphone5 just has a beautiful look to it that was exactly what I expected. I cant wait to have my own. Sorry if my opinion is not in line with everyone, but that is my true opinion from y first impressions that just happened at lunch today.

I'll probably hold on to my current tariff until the 4G rolls and I see what options are available. I wouldn't be surprised if my existing unlimited data doesn't cover that, which would initiate a change anyway. Provided I get a compatible handset, of course.

The Ipad is now just a huge piece of crap. I really enjoyed watching HD tennis matches on the youtube app rather than on my laptop. Now that you have to use Safari to go to youtube (without any full screen option, btw), I see no utility for the device. I had high hopes that I would use it for some tasks that I use my laptop for. Within a week I realized that I would rather do everything on my laptop rather than the Ipad.
Give this app a try.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/jasm...7050?l=en&mt=8

It has full screen and HD options. Very minimal interface too.

Agree with Power Player. This app is amazing!

Thanks a lot W.P. Mayhew!

Edit: I also downloaded it on my iphone, but for some reason it is not working. I will wait for the update I guess.

Really happy about getting the app on my ipad though.

Edit X 2: Fixed the app on my Iphone too. Things are all good now.

iOS 6 on a 4S is fantastic. Everything seems much faster - especially Safari. And with people going to the i5 and the LTE network my HSPA+ speeds are even better. Panorama picture option is fantastic.

Having said that, if I didn't have a smartphone and wasn't involved in an iPhone app startup, I'd get a Samsung G3. As @DRII said, Apple's lawyers are an embarrassment - this is going to end up stifling competition and keeping prices up. And Apple is behind the curve on features and rolled out Siri and Maps before they were ready. Arrogance in the Tech world is a very bad thing. Karma doesn't wait very long to come bite you - ask BB.

Makes sense. You could always mess around with it for a month, there's no contract so it wouldn't cost any more than the £10.

Alot of younger people seem to be on it, i've noticed. The price is very low and they're often putting the sim in handed down phones. If you see a kid with an iPhone, the chances of them being on GiffGaff is pretty high

I think it's great, it's cerainly not for everyone, but for people who can't afford £40 every month, it offers something affordable and unique.

Yeah, i'l looking at getting an S3 myself. Since the new iPhone came out the prices have been going down i've noticed. I'm tempting to wait for the 4G version coming out in the next few weeks, but it's not like i'll be able to use 4G on O2 anytime soon!

QFT...

and given Apple's history, you would think they would know better

Just goes to show that any corporation, if given the chance, won't stay the quirky-freedom loving-'kumbaya' little up start if they can enjoy near monopoly status!

Apple has become the epitome of this!!!

if anyone interested in the actual camera capability in low light,
take a look:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/26/l...ight-shootout/

also image stabilisation:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/25/i...tion-face-off/

seems like the Lumia is an easy winner.

It is a Shootout. Iphone 5 wins in camara test between these 3. but not in interface. Well iphone5, if i am buying for the panoramic camara capability, i would buy ya.
