It does not make sense why gmail is like that.

Funny thing though - the emails themselves are far better than on droid. They load fast, look much better and the functionality is easier for me. The droid gmail app would always move slow, you had to hit the back button or every time you opened it, it showed the last email you sent instead of your inbox..had to press a tab to get to another account instead of being able to see both..etc.
And I never had zooming capabilities on Gmail on Gingerbread. I don't know if they've updated that in Android, but I didn't have that with my old phone, and I really like that now. The Gmail app works well, it's just not quite as smooth as Mail.

@kaylan -

That review is insane...I know a lot of people who are excited about the Note II. For me personally it's just too big for a pocket, but for someone looking for a screen that big, it's an amazing device.

Apple has been very aggressive legally and it definitely sucked when I had a droid (felt unfair). For example, if you search google for a restaurant using an s3 you will not be able to press the phone # in the browser and dial the place via a hotlink. Apple patented that and made droid OS's remove it. So to get it back you have to root your phone.

In all honesty that is a great feature that I use a lot, and it sucked when apple did that when I had a droid.

Dali and I just threw down in Times Square. It was fun. We are eating sherbert now.

Wrong again!

I constantly search for locations using google and then highlight the phone number or press the hyper link and Android gives the option to dial automatically...

get your facts straight!

Build bigger pockets and the phones will come.

Yeah I was able to do this as well, except in the case of mobile websites that weren't dynamic (which is a tiny percentage of mobile websites).

I saw the trolls quote. Actually I am not wrong as I said S3. He does not even have an S3 unless suddenly that magically changed.

If you had an older droid this was not an issue because they could not take it out of your current featureset. But when apple sued samsung and htc by trying to prevent the phones from being shipped in, this was a feature removed. I know because I had the HTC. It is easily documented anywhere on line. We had to hack out phones to get this feature back.

Now that may have changed since the samsung lawsuit..who knows. But I assure you in June of 2012, it was not an available featured in my phone and it was addressed in the samsung lawsuit as well.

Once again I will post a link. I have posted links (conveniently ignored) backing up my opinion and experiences which is more than I can say for others.

http://androidforums.com/samsung-gal...ml#post4500392

It is not a personal vendetta for me. Its just a phone, and I am posting my experiences with links backing them up.

I hacked my phone 2 weeks into getting it because I needed features that simply were not there. So this could have been fixed in a software update and I would not have known about it. But it definitely was a real issue and there is a lot of evidence backing my experience.

That's interesting, obviously it didn't affect me with a nearly two year old HTC device.

BTW I still don't understand who cares about any of this stuff. People should use what they like and move on.

They're still just phones. I'm really happy after 2.5 weeks with my iPhone 5. It's working well for me and I'm happy to have it. The Note II and Lumia 920 look like they'll be amazing when they are released, and the GSIII running Jelly Bean (apparently happening now or very soon for people) is a benchmarking fiend.

There are so many good devices on the market right now. If WP8 takes off and people start developing apps for it, my next phone could easily be a Lumia flagship. That 920 is so striking.

I really love tech and devices. I dont understand why things get personal either.

I guess for me what I dont get is how some people here are this harsh on the new i5. My viewpoint is simplicity and speed is the ultimate test of a new phone and I am amazed at how many times some of us posted benchmarks and tests backing up our views and no one even addressed them. They just ignored them and then posted another troll post. It is sad.

Agree on the lumia..I am really interested in seeing what happens with the windows phone. I guess my main issues is that for me, I like small and slim phones. I am seeing tons of advantages already with the i5 as it is a lot easier for me to do the day to day tasks of replying to a text with one hand while out in a busy place.

I think the i5 is the most detailed and rich screen out right now, even though it is not 720 (links posted backing me up). Once again specs mean nothing in cellular tech. That is what people have to understand when they buy a cell. That may be the biggest takeaway from this whole thread.

The lumia could take the crown as the best screen. We will have to see how it tests out.

Curious who will buy the Phablets. Too big for me, and I dont like using a stylus. With the ipad mini coming out, it is interesting to see where tablets are going.

Fwiw, I agree with everything you've said. The specs and tests and neutral feedback (anandtech) about the iP5 definitely makes it seem like a great choice for anyone who cares about speed and efficiency. It's a great device, but probably too small for some, and maybe too limited for others. I have to assume that (if they can afford it), it's got to be a top option for 75% of smartphone buyers. For every tech/spec nerd out there, there are 20 people who don't care about specs or benchmarks, they just care about how well it works for them. iPhones kill in that department.

The screen resolution is a funny one to me. HDTV is 1080i/720p. That means if you're watching MNF on your 40" TV, you're doing it in 720p. Why anyone would truly care about watching true HD vids on a 4-5" screen is beyond me. PPI and color accuracy/clarity are much more important to me personally than whether or not a tiny screen (by comparison) matches the output of my TV. That's the reason I don't love AMOLED screens...The blacks are awesome but the colors are over saturated for my taste (personally).

I would have waited and bought the Lumia if it wasn't for the App store. ESPN Scorecenter, Mint, Yelp and a bunch of other go to apps aren't available on that platform, and after my frustration with Android in 2009 and 2010 (when there were like 8 good apps for 1.6 and 2.0), I wasn't willing to go back down that road with WP8. That and the fact that the 920 will be an AT&T Exclusive, at least for now...I wanted to move to Verizon.

What I love about the Lumia is the HD+ LCD screen with ridiculous PPI, and that they made the screen have a 60Hz refresh rate, to all but eliminate motion blur. With as smooth and fast as the WP OS is, a screen that clear would be amazing. I also love the live tile element of the OS, especially now that you can customize them to three different sizes, and they move, shift and show information to you without any action needed. It's an exciting option for someone looking to marry the smoothness of iOS with the customizing options and widgets from Android.

If it gets app development and a Lumia flagship happens on Verizon in 2014, that could easily be my next phone. Or the iPhone 6 might be incredible, or whatever Android OS is out at that time might be unbelievably good...All I know is that it's a fun time to be a smart phone nerd.

PP...it's because of some of your claims like ....it is 3 times faster than everything else...it's not. It is no faster than anything else. My wife and daughters are certainly no quicker than my S3.

The camera on my S3 takes amazing pics too....no less quality then our two I5's. Yet you act as if the quality is like comparing an old Polaroid to the latest digital.

I'm in Ft Myers. Heading back on Wednesday. Next time I'm down I'll hit you up and we can play some. Orlando is about a 3 hour drive though...might be worth it...your iPhone will probably be in the trash can by then!!! Ha

Server I agree. The AMOLED screen looks oversaturated to me, which is why I picked the OneX in June over the S3. And the articles posted reinforce what we are saying. It is not like we are being sheep or phanboys. Alo think Windows has a shot to compete with iOS due to their mobile OS. People will demand across the board OS updates and uniformity more and more.

GP,I never really commented on the photos that much to be honest. I also never said it was 3 times faster than anything else, I am just saying that when we loaded apps like facebook side by side (on the same wifi connection), the i5 smoked it. I also posted benchmark tests showing how fast the i5 is. It currently, truly is, the fastest phone out there.

And I would be willing to bet $$ my phone is not going anywhere. As much as I love phones and tech I usually keep them throughout the life of a contract. This early switch just happened as a perfect storm of me being fed up with the droid phone and the horribly bad service and reception of sprint. I hope no one is lured in by their unlimited data because unlimited data plans simply = "our data coverage is very bad so we will give you as much as you want".

But yeah hit me up if you want to play. The only reason I ever tell people to come meet me or whatever is because I know in person things are way different. People get along and usually have a great time hitting. I have hit with many people from TT and it is always a blast.

Yes exactly.

I5 freaks (P.P. for example, I wouldn't put BigServer in this category) can only talk about subjective criteria of how the iPhone outclasses Android. Even if all those are true, there are still objective, prime facie, factual characteristics that are simply not available on the Iphone5 but have been on Android for years

Yet instead of further innovating, Apple decides to sue its competitors. We'll see what happens when Google, who now owns Motorola (which started most of this whole mobile phone thing), sues Apple...

The lawsuit thing is dumb. I wish Apple/Samsung would both drop it. Steve Jobs himself quoted "Good artists borrow, great artists steal". That should be Samsung's closing argument in court, lol.

It's interesting that you bring up subjective/objective, because that's always how I feel (maybe felt) about Android fans when dissing iPhones. "Well MY phone has a 'faster' processor than your phone" etc. I'm surprised to see this shift in user base (not just in this thread but on BI, Techcrunch, Engaget, CNet, etc.).

Android is in the dominant position now, but the iPhone doing well is good for the mobile phone industry. I'm interested to see Q4 iPhone sales...After all the trash talking, the iPhone 5 set an opening weekend record for sales, eclipsing any other phone release ever. With the holiday season rolling around Apple could easily sell 15 million more iP5s in Q4.

The last thing I'll say, is that I think Apple still is innovating. They released a phone that is thinner and lighter than just about all of it's competitors, yet they made this phone with the fastest benchmarks on the market (barring GSIII international on Jellybean), and better battery life and technology in general than their previous phones. There wasn't anything Apple could have done in the iPhone 5 that would have truly been "innovative". NFC, fingerprint technology, widgets, etc. all could be classified as simply "catching up".

The best example of this I think is battery life. The battery in the iP5 is small in comparison to top Android devices, yet it gets as good or better battery life than nearly every Android phone (exception being the Droid Razr Maxx which was built specifically to be a long life phone). People will say "watered down multitasking" (it's better on iP5 than it was on my HTC running gingerbread, but with multi screen stuff now from Samsung and 4.0+ I'll concede that there are more options there), or "simple OS", but at the end of the day I get 8 hours of SOLID usage, including games, video, music/TV streaming, social media, calling, text, wifi, LTE and location based services. That's amazing considering how "small" the battery is.

While it's easy to say "Apple is just now getting around to things Android has had for years", the reverse is true as well. Only now, with 4.1 Jelly Bean, is Android getting closer to a smooth and error free OS, something that iPhones have had for years. The app development for Android is starting to pull even with Apple after 4 years of existence (iOS apps still typically come first, but the overall app numbers are pretty even)...The day to day usage element of iPhones and iOS has been unrivaled, imo, until now, and even then, it's only 2% of Android devices (many of them tablets) that are running the most up to date OS.

As you've mentioned, for you personally, that didn't matter, and you've had great results with your current phone. For me, it did, and my old phone was awful (even though it was a top Android phone when I bought it) which helped my decision to move over to iOS.

I was on the queens bound 7 train to Frushing and the woman who owns Suzie Woos in the Village acknowledged the iPhone 5 GOATness as I scored 14,880 on epic Atari Missile Command. She fully made a GPOAT declaration right there. Epic.

Blackberry Pearl?

Nah.

GPOAT.

I'm supposed to get my HTC EVO 4G LTE today at work. Mixed reviews from co-workers that have it. Internal battery (ugh), but with comparable screen size to the S3.

Well I'm a little annoyed with Apple today. I've got multiple photo albums on my iPhone 4 but my phone will only sync photos in the camera roll. All the photos from previous iPhones will not download. I'm reading about apps that can do it but really this should be built into the base software.

The LTE network is incredible. It does seem faster than being on a wireless network. I love it!
