Hey guys, been playing for over 5 yrs. now, but just recently I started getting pain on a muscle that is around the elbow area, is it TE or GE in anyway? But it only hurts when I serve. No pain whatsoever on any of my daily lifestyle uses or when I play tennis in anyway aside from serving. I get a pain in muscle at the top of my forearm and bottom of the upper arm, so area below and on top of my elbow, only when I serve though. This has never happened before until a couple weeks ago I started noticing. I have taken time off and other things like stretching, but it does not seem to help. I figured it may have been my form at one point but I was talking to others and they said my form was just fine. Anyone help please?

There are many recent threads on GE & TE to search. Example,
http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=439769 The point I make is that tendon injuries cannot heal properly right after injury if you continue to play on them. A risk of developing chronic tennis elbow results. Discussed in the thread above. See also the CharlieFedererer reply with the illustrations. You don't know what injury you have and cannot get a diagnosis from the internet. There are many other elbow conditions and your description of pain on both the top & bottom of the elbow is not the most usual TE or GE symptom. Stop playing and see a well qualified Dr. |

It hurts at the ext. muscle area and the humerus.
I'll go see a doctor, but can't for another couple weeks or so. I am away at school.

In my other posts I say that I read a general description of an acute(sudden & new) tennis elbow injury. Dr John Cianca, in Repetitive Strain Injury Handbook, using tennis elbow as an example of an acute tendon injury, said that if you play on a tennis elbow injury for 'more than a few weeks' the healing may be defective on the microscopic level. According to that description if you injury your elbow stop playing or stressing it right away. I wish there were more such descriptions as I believe it. Part of my belief is seeing people with tennis elbow who cannot heal it.
If the tendon condition becomes tendinosis here is a 1999 research report describing the nature of the defective tissue. http://jbjs.org/article.aspx?articleid=24244 Sorry for the downer picture but it is the argument for stopping tennis. |
