Ok. Let's bring up something more profound:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008...ennis.scotland Very interesting read. Did this terrible event affect Murray and drive him to be the player he is today. Did it make him insular and focused on tennis to escape the trauma. He says he doesn't remember much and that his parents divorce had a huge impact on him causing him to look for distraction. Or was it a combination of both? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYFJjVcFFr0

I read an interview with Andy's father, and according to him, Andy was extremely competitive from a very young age. Quote:

Yes sorry I fixed it.
I get the impression he thought he nearly lost his mum twice. Once in the massacre and once in the divorce. For a young kid if that feels real then it's a terrible and powerful thing and I think Andy Murray shut it out of his head by diving headlong into an activity and it was tennis. Never let you down. Control your own destiny.

Turns out his dad was physically abusing him, alcohol driven beatings and the like. He then shut himself in the room, never played outside, only obsessively with his Sinclair Computer. Ended up writing Grand Theft Auto.

^ Fedex, you should not be exposing names of real people.
Seems Andy's memory of the event was patchy. He was not even in the room of the incident. He is remembering more that fact that he knew the boy, and the boy drove with them.

My tuppence worth - I don't see how hiding under a headmaster's desk while someone is running around shooting kids can't have an effect on an 8 year old. That said, Jamie was hiding under the same desk, and he didn't become a driven, world class player.

As far as I am aware (although i've never spoken to him about it personally) Andy has said he doesn't remember much, if anything, about that day and much of his recollection comes from what he has been told since.
cheers

He may not have fully understood what was going on during that terrible day, but it must have left an impression when he realised what had happened. Nobody is told to hide under the Headmaster's desk for nothing. The fact that he knew the killer personally must have been even more shocking!
He's obviously not one to dwell on things like this. It certainly didn't affect his ambition to become a world-class tennis player. But it must be a sobering thought to realise that, but for a bit of luck, his life and ambitions could so easily have been snuffed out there and then! On a personal note, I feel a slight link with the Dunblane tragedy. On the day it happened, I was working in the Purchasing Dept of Royal Mail and was contacted by the manager of one of our depots whom I knew. He was trying to obtain flight tickets for one of his distraught employees whose daughter had been injured in the shootings. The manager hadn't been able to arrange anything quickly enough and asked me for help. I had only just begun hearing reports of the incident when he rang me and I immediately contacted our contract travel agency to facilitate the arrangements and they did so. The poor guy was able to fly out the same day. Thankfully his daughter survived and I got a nice thank-you letter from him and his manager. I always recall that when I hear talk about Dunblane especially as Andy Murray, our future number one tennis player, turned out to be one of the kids who could so easily have been injured or killed. There but for the grace of God etc....!
