Sanding your strings??? Hmmmm

I just read this & at first thought it funny then thought hmmmm maybe there is something to this lol. Thoughts? From this thread: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/feedback-RCON16.html

"I added some texture to the string bed using a small piece of 100 grit sandpaper. Wow, what a difference that made! Topspin is incredible now, great bite into the ball, and durability hasn't really been affected at all. The key is to sand the string bed very lightly, and only in one direction (from the head to the throat), just enough to create some scuff marks on the high points where the strings cross over. Don't over do it! After just a few light strokes you can see (and feel) the rougher texture on the high spots. Don't sand in the low spots because you want the area where the strings contact and rub to remain smooth and slick for durability and reduced string movement."

Players used to do this in the 90s. Just learn how to generate more RHS.

I for one do not go for gimmicks to generate more spin. Test strings, yes, but alter the stringbed, no. I figure that if I need that much help, then I just need to practice more.

I only do it if I'm playing with a not so good smooth poly in the mains and synthetic gut in the crosses. It kind of locks the strings in place a little more than if it weren't sanded. Does it add more topspin? IMO, no it really doesn't affect anything other than slightly less movement.

Edit: Forgot to mention that this was done with mains installed first(sanded that only), then installing the crosses.

great tip, tried it years ago, but will try it for Babolat addiction as the ball just skids at ballcontact.
