Mono ended Ancic's career as he suffered from it for many years. Even many people on this board who have had mono suffered the effects of it for a year or longer. Federer continued to play in 2008 DESPITE having mono because he's the superhuman GOAT.
That is exactly why people do not buy the mono story. He didn't have to miss one tournament and not only that he played a five set match under the heat of the Australian sun.

He still managed to win that match pretty handily, and then went on to demolish Del Potro in his next match.

Tomas Berdych (CZE) 21 W 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-2
Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG) 6 W 6-3, 6-0, 6-0

No, Federer served too poorly for this to be near his best. He was in the 40% range for most of it. It's a wonder that it went to 5 sets and that he actually won more points.

Yes but he got helped by a joke job from Berdych plus Delpo was nowhere near his USO form also Fred's ground game was fine his first serve was terrible

Aside from the fact mono affects people differently, it's been well documented that Federer was in an Australian hospital on a drip a week or two prior to the 2008 Australian Open and had been experiencing bouts of illness from the end of 2007, subsequently missing a lot of practice and fitness training opportunities. This naturally had an adverse impact on his ability to carry on where he left off in 2007, despite a valiant effort. We saw this in the otherwise inexplcable drop in his performances and results in 2008.

The one 5 set match he played in the 2008 Aussie when he had mono was against tipsy in a night match where the roof was closed so dunno what you're on about
