Default Hitting partners in Rhode Island / Southern Mass.

Hey folks, I'm a 5.0 player who recently moved to Providence, RI, to start a new job. Trouble is, I don't know many players in the area and because of that and work I haven't been playing all that much lately! Probably more like a 1.0

I'm hoping to join a club in the area in the near future, but I also thought I'd see if anyone in the TW universe is in the area and would like to hit.

About me: 30 y.o., 5.0, former national-level player (well, that was 12 years ago...), looking for players roughly somewhere near my level.
I'll be happy to hit with anyone in RI and wouldn't mind driving into MA, either. Naturally, if you're anywhere close to Providence I'll be happy to have you come hit on my nice university courts.

Feel free to shoot me a PM or an email at jei4 (at) duke (dot) edu.

Hope to hear from some of you!
Justin

Couple of web sites for some ideas on getting you hooked up....

http://www.forecourtri.com/tennis/

http://www.spotri.com/pages/index.cfm?siteid=16370

http://www.active.com/tennis-league/...is-league-2012

http://www.eteamz.com/sccta/

Roger Williams Park clay courts are outstanding....and there are a lot of backboards wearing sneakers that frequent those parts....

Welcome to Rhody

Yes, Welcome to RI. If you like outdoor tennis, Larry and Marisa are great for setting up competitive matches for everyone @SPOTRI. A nice casual but competitive environment.

Thanks for the info, guys! I have actually talked to Fore Court and will be heading over there this week for a (horribly rusty) hitting session.

I did get in touch with Larry at Spot Tennis, but that unfortunately didn't work out as well as I'd hoped.

If anyone happens to know a strong stringer who doesn't charge an arm and a leg for labor, I'm all ears!

Thanks again!

You can try Glenn @SVU Stringing: g2571@cox.net. He has decent prices and fast turnaround.

Anyone in the South Kingston, Narragansett or Newport Area? I'm on the CT boarder of RI but I surf in those area's all the time and would love to hit around some time. I know the Newport tennis hall of fame has grass courts but It's a wee bit pricey Any clay courts in the area? Any URI students on here? That's pretty close to Gansett and they just re-did the courts I believe?..

Ok Thanks.

hey all...im local in RI & love to find hitting partners too. 31 yo prior college player, havent been rated since that time but if i had my guess, 4.5 or so. used to teach as well. Always looking for hitting partners and am a member of a local indoor club. Message me if youd like to play.

Borrelli - there are clay courts in Warwick right off 95, Warwick Heights, i am not sure what the cost of playing is..but its a good spot. URI has nice courts, also, there are nice courts just a few mins away from the campus heading into wakefield.

Yeah, URI would be a lot closer to where I'm looking than Warwick. I'm sure there's some pretty nice private courts along the shoreline but just need to know the right people. Point Judith Country Club anyone?..lol

The PJCC grass courts were the site of my S&V upbringing (thanks to parents' membership). They also had the wisdom to add a pair of clay courts there a few years back, too. Beautiful place, but the tennis has always been a lesser priority there compared with the golf.

To the best of my knowledge, the Warwick Heights club is also members only. The clay courts at Roger Williams Park are probably the best bet when they're in business (as far as getting onto some clay), but there are lots of nice parks, etc. with hard courts scattered all over the place. I'm in southern RI and coach the teams at North Kingstown.

My e-mail: tjorhody@yahoo.com

I string racquets (usually overnight) and also play a good bit in case anyone needs a hand in one area or another. Since I'm currently shopping a new computer, my response to any e-mails may take a few days, but I'll do my best to keep tabs.

Hey there Fuzz! Yeah my father used to play thames valley league matches on those grass courts occasionally. I forget the team that he played? think he said a lot of the URI kids played on it? Those were their home court I believe? but that was in the early 90's.

Trying to stay in the S. Kingston area if possible. I only say Newport because I know some people there that I could possible crash with if need be. I've played a bit on the Misquamicut Beach courts in Westerly, the one's right on the beach near the Andrea hotel. Pretty nice for people watching, I mean when not focusing on the tennis of course

I'll shoot you a email anyway and maybe we can get together some time.
