Placing lead tape on the handle

I am trying to customize my Dunlop 300 Bio a little further. I have a few grams on the head and now I'm going to counterbalance with lead tape on the handle when I stumbled upon this situation.

Is it recommended when putting lead tape on the handle to take of the base grip to put the lead tape on the handle or can I put it on the base grip and then put an over grip over it? I usually play with the original base grip underneath and with an over grip over it.

I am looking to put a few grams about 7 inches above the butt cap(bottom of the racquet going up?) and am wondering if there will be any difference.

If you put lead tape on the grip itself, some folks complain that you won't get enough cushioning and makes the grip more rounded with just an overgrip on top.

Personally, I just put it on the grip itself and cover with an overgrip. It makes it alot easier to customize. Besides, other than noticing a bevel (if that bothers you), if you are going to put it 7 inches above the base, you'll barely notice it anyways.

It would be less work to just put the lead tape on the base grip and put overgrip on top of it rather than taking the base grip off. However, when you take the lead tape off from the base grip in the future, it will leave residue from the lead tape on your base grip. Otherwise, the end result should be equal.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was normal or not. You said that if I put it 7in above the base, Ill barely notice it, so where do you recommend lead tape on the grip if you were to make your racquet head light?

Take the base grip off and add lead, do a proper job !
The picture below had two strips of dense lead used for golf clubs, about 6g, you well certainly notice it. If you don't like it try less weight or try weight at the butt cap.

I noticed a difference by putting just over a gram of lead tape at 7". It makes the racquet swing more efficiently. Putting a lot of lead at 7" will make you over-hit the ball. If your a righty, your forhand will go too far to the left. But a little lead tunes the racquet up nicely. If you want to add weight to adjust the balance, add it at 10 cm from the but, or at your index knuckle.

I usually counterbalance my racquets with the point of using the least amount of lead. With that said, I wrap my lead tape around the butt of the racquet. Also, my general rule is for every gram you put above the throat, I usually put (around) 2 grams on the butt (if u want to even it out). Really depends on what you feel more comfortable with.

Once you decide on how much lead what you want, you can always decide to rip out the grip put under.
