Hey everyone, I have a couple of simple questions about customizing my HEAD Microgel Radical MP's. At the moment, I have CAP grommets on it as well as Tournagrip XL's. My question is, with this setup, what should the weight be? I know my overgrips should weigh around 6 grams, but I haven't been able to determine how much weight the CAP's should add over the standard weight of 312 grams?
My second question involves the balance. I just attempted to measure the balance, and my calculation are giving me 12.5 inches, or 8 points head light. Is there any rational explanation for this huge deviation from the normal specs? Shouldn't the CAPs make it more head-heavy? I'm quite confused. Lastly, If you guys could help me out, I'm looking to customize these rads to about 340-345 grams and 3 to 6 points headlight with leather grips and lead tape. Any help with that would be appreciated. |

you are assuming all rackets have the same specs. Odds are your radicals will not be the same specs as the ones TW listed

No idea what your CAPs weigh but my MG Rad's were right in your stated range, 340-345g, 4-5HL, with poly strings (adds maybe 6g), 4g at 10 & 2 and 5g in the handle, plus overgrip & damper. Played great that way.

Interesting point Absolute, but I still have trouble seeing why my rackets would be 6 points more headlight than the TW specs when I've CAPed the grommets, which should have made it more head heavy. And thanks Keith, I may try to add some weight in a similar fashion and see what happens.

CAPs should make the racquet more HH as they add 12 grams of weight vs stock MG Rad MP grommets.

Still doesn't explain how it's so head light. Maybe it's the grip. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

One more question for you guys. What does a generic HEAD Hydrosorb replacement grip weigh?

And if the CAP adds 12g it definitely shouldn't be 8HL, more like 2HL. Perhaps you measured wrong? Last edited by keithfival : 04-07-2013 at 05:23 PM. |

I thought that too, so I measured about 15 times! I could not get more than a sixteenth of an inch from 12.5!

did you buy the MG Rad used? if so, maybe the previous owner had injected silicon in the handle or added lead inside the handle under the trap door. there must be some added weight inside the handle otherwise it wouldn't be so HL. even w/ a leather grip + CAP grommets installed and no other mods, the MG Rad MP is maybe only about 1-2 pts HL.
