Default Poly - Longevity, Comfort, Spin...in that order

I've tried to ween myself off poly b/c I string myself and its a bit of a pain vs multis and goes dead relatively fast so I have to do it more often. I just can't seem to give up the spin. Pretty much any poly will give me enough spin vs other string types so my priorities are:

Longevity (not wear but deadness), comfort and spin in that order.

Suggestions?

Thank you for the suggestion. I guess too many threads asking for suggestions to get many responses.

Buy by the spool and string more often, most poly users leave their strings in way to long. Its that or give up the spin it is up to you.

You are not going to get the answer here, with all of the ill-informed, knee jerk opinions. You need to work this out for yourself to get a definitive answer. Since you string for yourself, this should be a simple (albeit time consuming) process. There is no instant Karma.

Really what is ill-informed about changing poly more often? This is what I call real life experience and common sense!

Gee, I should apologize. Sorry I suggested the OP should trust his own personal experience, since he can string for himself and judge the results first hand, rather than rely on the infinite, collective second-hand wisdom that permeates this site. You must be the center of your own universe -- did I quote your post? Did I direct my post towards you? It was a general comment. Get over yourself, piss-ant.

Of course, the above response can't be excluded from it's description of the responses you will get here! I have only "well-informed" opinions, so I had better not speak up. But I will contribute this. There are quite a few good strings available, so don't get caught up trying them all. Just pick a few that you can afford & try them & don't get hung up obsessing about the string making or breaking your game. Get on with playing tennis.

Cheers,
kev

I read somewhere that if you aren't breaking your polyesters within a week, you probably shouldn't be playing them, as most people are loathe to cut out strings every 10 days.

Just more proof that there are a few people who are not here to help! Fortunately they are easily identified & it's probably best to ignore their advice.

Go screw yourself you little wimp, I know that the only time you can talk like this is from behind your keyboard because otherwise you would get your a&& kicked.

I have found that poly gets a lot worse from steady hitting rather than just sitting in my bag. I know that it still loses tension from sitting but it does not lose the playability as much as from banging with it steady.

I never heard that if you don't break poly in a week that you should not be using them. All I do know is that they play great when fresh and after a few times out they go down quickly.

That must be why the pro players only use a string job for a little more than a half hour.

Try these:

1. SigPro Tornado (textured) or Hyperion (smooth)
2. Tecnifibre Blackcode (textured) or Redcode (smooth)

I play SigPro - really seem like good quality and you can get the price in the $8-$10 range if you buy a reel and are careful about lengths.

I also hybrid which seems to add a bit to poly life span. Currently, syn gut or multi mains with poly crosses but have also used poly mains with syn gut or multi crosses.

Can you tell me what is the difference between hybrid poly in the mains and multi crosses and the other way around??
Does it also influence the lifespan of your strings and tension??

For tension maintenance, the Signum Pro line is hard to beat.
I'm not sure if OP is looking for other polys or an alternative.

realplayer; Poly in the mains will have less power and more longevity.
Multi in the mains will have more power, comfort, and spin for a shorter time.

My rule of thumb is: If you can break syngut in 4-6 weeks, you MAY be ready for poly.

...and you other guys need to either cool it or take it outside.

fortun8son,,,

What would be your timeline for switching from a hybrid to full poly?

My son was breaking syn gut every week in the 8th grade. He is now a junior and can go through a hybrid job in around 6 to 8 hours hours of playing. Is that ready for full poly ?

I don't think there really is a timeline.
Going to full poly from a hybrid is a change in performance (and maybe cost). A step sideways, not up.
Assuming it's still the mains that are breaking and that he's comfortable playing with the hybrid, just stick with what you've got.

He is comfortable with the Black Iontec Mains crossed with PSGO and has found his range with them.

It's the syn gut crosses that usually break first, but the mains are just about gone also. I'm just looking ahead to when the crossed start coming apart much faster...

^^ I would try crossing the poly with the thickest nylon you can find. It has proved as durable if not more durable than full poly for me.
