Default Why is Federer targeting Rio Olympics?

I just dont get it. He has already said that he has already shortened his tennis schedule for the next year(s), so that he can be fit for 2016 Olympics.
Now my question is, why would he want to do that. Simply put, he isnt winning gold. He will be 35 and Rio will most likely be held on clay. Even 30 year old Rafa, with broken knees has a much better chance. Nole and Murray will still be there, Plus the young guys will be there. Look, I respect Fed as a player immensely but I just dont his logic of targeting Rio. If his aim is to compete in 5 Olympics, then this is just getting pathetic. He will only embarass himself there. His peak on clay couldnt do it, his 35 year old body certainly wont be able to...

I think he's doing what he did when he mentioned London 2012 as a target 4 years ago. It gets the media off his back for retirement, as 4 years is a long time away.

Firstly, I think it was somewhat confirmed awhile ago that Rio will be played on hardcourts, not clay.

If people like Agassi can win slams beyond 30s, I don't see why Olympics is hard to achieve given the format..

He wants to keep playing for a few years and loves being apart of the Olympics. Why shouldn't he target Rio 2016?
