More Impressive Achievement of Sampras or Federer

What do you think is the more impressive achievement:

Sampras who was year end #1 for 6 consecutive years and was in the top 2 year end for 6 total years (tied for 4th best all time).

Or Federer who was year end #1 for 4 consecutive years and will be in the top 2 year for 9 total years (record).

Federers is objectively better, his achieveements eclipse sampras, which also shows This stat. However, in This case sampras record looks nicer, esthaetically

It's close but I'd give it to Sampras. Sampras had those consecutive year end #1, but looking at his credentials the longest he was consecutively was 102 weeks.....on the other hand Fed was consecutively number 1 for a whopping 237 weeks. Still though 6 year end number ones is flat out pimp so I give Sampras props on that.

Fed's 300 total weeks trumps all of those records in my opinion though. It's amazing that if he ends up number 1 again this year he ties Pete's 6 year end number 1s while also extending the total weeks record even more)

Consecutive looks nice but I am not sure there is huge actual value in it being consecutive. For instance I actually see Bill Tilden getting a 7th year as year end number one in 1931 after a 6 year wait as being highly impressive.

If Federer was to get the year end number 1 this year (a difficult but not inconceivable task) then would his 6 year end number ones be actually less that Sampras' 6 consecutive year ends. Sure consecutive is cool but it is also cool to re-claim number 1. In Federer's case it would be after a 3 year break.

I give it to Sampras's year end number ones but I find Federer's weeks at #1 even more impressive

People forget Pete could have ended 1999 and 2000 as Number 1 as well. He got hurt before the USO then won the YEC but Andre ended #1.. And I think he could have ended 2000 as Number 1 as well but he got married to that Sonya Blade chick.

Ultimately Fed was more driven than Sampras and that's why he is still going at right now even though he's old, has a family and so many accomplishments. I know Sampras has said he has no regrets but I wonder if in the back of his mind somewhere it eats him up that he didn't go for it a little more during the latter parts of his career. He suffered some unlikely losses and called it quits when it was obvious he still had a ton of game left. Not saying he would have won more slams but who knows? The guy was awesome. Either way he lost the fire at that stage of his career and Fed has not.

People forget federer could have ended 2003 as number 1, although he won the year end championship, he was second to roddick by 160 pts.

Nalbandian ruined Federer's chances of finishing 2003 at no. 1. He beat him in the R16 at the Australian Open and the U.S. Open, with a win at Cincinnati to boot. If Federer had gone deeper in any of those tournaments, he very well may have finished no. 1.
