change in ranking points

in last 20 years i thinking the ranking points have been changed at least 3 times (i think so, but not sure)

i dont understand what does ATP gain by changing the ranking points?

also another change that i dont like, is the changing of names from Masters Series to 1000 series

also what happened to Grand Slam Cup by ITF in early nineteens
