If Federer can win 6 more matches this year, he will have won 70 matches in the year that he turned 31.

To put this in perspective, below is the number of matches won by the following players in the year they turned 31.

Connors (1983) 52-11 (worth noting that he went 74-14 the next year)
Agassi (2001) 46-15
Sampras (2002) 27-17
Lendl (1991) 55-18
McEnroe (1990) 33-15

The game was less physical back in 83/84 then it is now. Also there a lot of quick courts for Connors to clean up on. With the surface homogenization along with heavier tennis balls, there is very little on the calendar for Federer to easily win.

It would be surprising if he didn't, isn't he playing Basel and Paris before WTF, and if so, he should easily have 6 by the WTF.

Federer is the most durable/crafty athlete since lance armstrong. What an achievement (if you like that sort of thing)!

I think 2013 is the year where Federer will start sharply declining, but this just outlines that every professional tennis player's career is vastly different.

Looking at these numbers there is a notable tendence: attacking players decline earlier ( Sampras and McEnroe records are by far the worst).

you mean he is the only one fresh as a daisy when the late season indoor tournaments come? Where does he get all that energy from? Quite a specimen, this Fed.

I don't think anyone should try to draw comparisons to Lance Armstrong as its not fair to any tennis player to be lumped in with him unless something is proven... And wouldn't Novak and Rafa be the most obvious canidates as they have "unbelievable" endurance and recovery???

Unlike Rafa or Uncle Toni, Fed was smart enough to know that a grinding playing style like Rafa's will only shorten your career and lead to many injuries, so he chose a different style, one that lends it self to longevity and beauty, don't hate, appreciate!
