hello im new to this forum and looking for some help trying to get my racquets customized.
I have 5 frames and I think I know what specs I want them to be; I don't really want to mess around with things on my own as I have tinkered with lead tape in the past without very good results. I have been searching online and in this forum and come up with some companies that do it like priority one(www.p1tennis.com), racquetmaxx (www.racquetmaxx.com) and sweetspot tennis (www.sweetspottennis.net). Any feedback or info on these companies? I would rather not spend a ton of money customizing; are some really worth the extra dough? |

Priority One is well knwon, some TT posters have used it with good results.
Sweetspot Tennis is actually owned by one TT user, do a quick search and you'll find the specific thread. I can't tell about the price, since I'm not aware, nor if it's worthy, because I don't live in the US.

What kind of customizations do you want? If its something simple it might be a better idea to try and do it yourself (I know you had a bad experience but we could help

thanks for your advice - I have heard that priority 1 has great results but can be expensive.. anyone know what I would be looking at price wise for 5 frames?
sweetspot has prices listed on their site that seem a lot more reasonable. They also seem to offer pretty cheap re-string rates. I just submitted a contact form on their site. I am looking to shave down two grips and customize and match all five of my racquets and hopefully get them restrung at the same time. in[k] - thanks for your suggestion and help, and if all options seem too expensive I may just try to figure it out on my own; but if I find an affordable route I would rather have them professionally done for piece of mind |

You will be better of finding a USRSA MRT. It will cost you less. All of those companies charge in the neighborhood of $30-$40 per racquet for customization.

ryushen - just checked and the only local MRT is a guy who has a poor rep. and I personally had a bad experience with.
So most companies I am looking at $30-$40? Racquetmaxx lists services at $60 for customization and more for decreasing handle size. Sweetspot lists customizing at $24 with their sale going on.. re-stringing is a lot cheaper than my local pro shop too, which could make it worthwhile. Anyone have any feedback on them? I will update when I hear back via email. I may have to be the test subject for their services.. |

update - just got an email back from Sean at sweetspot tennis - provided a friendly personal message with a quick response about my customization interests. Its nice to see someone take the time to address my concerns and questions! It looks like customization will be $24 a racquet and restringing with big ace is $16 a racquet after the multiple racquet discount. I am going to reply asking advice for customization and find out about turn around time.
I am currently thinking I will take the plunge if things continue to look good - price is right and I need my racquets restrung anyways. If anyone has any input or advice feel free to chime in! I will let you know when I find out about turnaround time. |

I'm glad you found a good price
And yeah if you are shaving down your grip pallets, getting it done by proffesional hands would be the best route. I know I wouldn't trust myself to do it to my racquet.

Re shaving one down....You might want to see if they can do a custom pallet for you. I have had a few friends that have had theirs reduced and they all said that something felt "off."

thanks everyone for your advice and help - there are a lot of things to consider with picking a place to get frames customized.
I heard back again from sweetspot tennis and their turnaround time is 72 hours after they receive racquets and then ship them back via usps priority. This turnaround seems really good to me as I don't want to go an extended period of time without my racquets. I have a phone consultation setup for tomorrow to discuss my specific customization needs which I think is a nice touch. If everything goes well I think I will go with sweetspot as the price and turnaround are very good. I will let you know how the process goes starting with the consultation tomorrow. thanks again |

just talked on the phone with sean of sweetspottennis.net and we came up with a good customization plan for my frames including shaving down two of my 1/2 in grips to be 3/8 like the rest of my frames. He is going to measure all the specs of my frames after they arrive and let me know that information before we finalize my desired end result.
So far the process is going very smoothly.. I am shipping my frames out tomorrow. I am excited to get them done and back in my hands! If anyone has any questions about my experience so far just let me know.. I feel like the test subject for this company |

Sweetspot (sweetspottennis.net) charges $24 per racquet for customization / matching which is what I am having done (along with shaving down handles on two out of my five frames). My frames should be arriving to them today and I will update when I hear back about my specs and finalize my customization setup. |

scratch that - they should be arriving to them tomorrow, not today. I was able to drop them off last minute at the post office yesterday but not quick enough to get them there today. Ah the suspense.

my racquets arrived at sweetspot today and my initial measurements were sent - it is crazy to hear how different my frames could be from one another! Poor quality control..
I have decided on my specs through some time talking on the phone and I am pleased with how things are going. Was told me racquets would be completed this weekend and shipped back to me via 2-3 day priority mail on Monday. I can't wait to get them back! I will hit with them and review the service after they are received. |

BTW: What were the sticks that you had customized? I'd be interested to know how they turned out. |

What is the sweetspotennis.net contact address?
They have a contact form on their website that will send a request (what I initially did) at: http://www.sweetspottennis.net/Sweet...__Contact.html I was then contacted by Sean through his email sean@sweetspottennis.net which you could probably also use to contact them. hope this helps! |
