Default 2012 Basel FINAL - [1] Roger FEDERER vs. [2] Juan Martin DEL POTRO

In looking for his first victory over Federer since 2009, perhaps the 8th time's the charm?

Delpo finally bets him again. He was 2-0 in RG before he got injured and in the Olympics he was 2 points away in his worst surface and Fed's best.

Based on form:

- Federer has done the absolute minimum in every match, never in real threat (even in the Bellucci match Federer losing never crossed my mind), played only 1 good match against Paire yesterday. I epxpect Federer to raise his level a bit tomorrow knowning that he's up againt Del Potro.
- Del Potro has played better every match, he started off really poorly, being broken left and right by the likes of Falla but somehow played himself into form, today he played pretty well.

Even

Based on circumstances:
It's Federer's home town and a rather fast hard court.

Advantage Federer

Based on the h2h
Well, Federer has owned Del Potro since his comeback, 6 out of 6 this year, even when he had him on the ropes (Dubai 2nd set, Olympics, the French Open) he coudn't finish it off. Also, the match-up favors Federer.

Advantage Federer

Going with Federer 7-6 6-4

depends mostly on his serve , if he can get good service points , he can put pressure on juan martin.

You really think that if they weren't not that important Mr. Federer would play instead of resting for Paris/WTF?

If Fed can do what he usually does against Delpo, meaning low balls, slices, exploiting movement, pulling him to the net, he wins in straights. Delpo has to serve big and mix his serve up a bit . In their last matches , he always went to Roger's backhand from the deuce court and Fed easily chipped them back in and kept it low. Maybe he should go out wide a bit, open up the court.
Fed in 2.

Federer just needs to put a few more DS and slices and he'll win.

I was just remembering that Delpo had a 6-0 lead in their second tie-breaker in Dubai.

British legally, but both in practice.

Delpo is too good of a player to go 7 and 0 to Federer this year in my opinion. Also Federer's backhand and ROS are looking shambolic as of late.

Good point. But, putting the sentimental/contract(?) reasons aside, Basel fits nowhere. Playing all 3 of Basel, Paris, WTF on the trot is a tough stretch. Skipping Paris where Fed's defending 1000 points makes no sense. Would have been better off with the Shanghai/Beijing and Paris/WTF doubles like the Djoker. UFE from Fed?
