Question

Last night the Tragic were two fouls away from a situation I've never seen before...not having five guys to play! Apparently, they dressed seven after dealing four guys at the trade deadline, losing two to injuries (Davis, Nelson) and one to suspension (Turkoglu). They played the Grizzlies tough but Vukevic and Harkless fouled out, leaving them the minimum five to play.

Does anybody know the rule imposed if the sixth foul had been rung up on one of the last five? Is it a forfeit?

you don't foul out(the fifth guy), the opposing team gets a free throw regardless of type of foul'
from wiki-
In the NBA and WNBA, if a team is reduced to five players and one commits a sixth foul, that player must stay in the game; one additional free throw is awarded to the opposing team. Even if there are no free throws to be awarded because of an offensive foul, the one free throw will be added irrespective of offensive or defensive foul. A one-free throw penalty will also be awarded if said team has a player who must leave the game after being injured or ejected, and has no legal substitutes; the last player to foul out rejoins the game with the one free throw penalty. Thus, no team can be reduced to four players in those leagues. This rule is how Don Otten managed to set the NBA record for personal fouls in a regular season game. He had eight fouls while playing for the Tri-Cities Blackhawks against the Sheboygan Red Skins on November 24, 1949.[3]

Somebody needs to teach Dwight Howard how to handle the media, and build a positive PR...

In all honesty, for Dwight that's progress.

He admitted he was playing badly and cost the team wins instead of blaming everyone else.

That's a first...lol.

Yeah but why would you admit that yourself? If I'm on my contract year, I'm keeping it to myself.

Anyone watching the Boston/Utah game on NBA TV? There have been a LOT of questionable calls on both sides.

The refs are going to decide this game.

say chi -- i'm watching the nuggets/lakers game. the refs are doing everything in their power to "will" the lakers to a win. nuggets are up 10 with 4 minutes left. it's pretty blatant.

I don't know what the refs are doing in this game. They would got 6 minutes with no whistle. Then all of the sudden, there'd be 5 whistles within a minute.

Great article. Love video examples like that.

He is playing hurt, can't reach above his head like normal with his shoulder and his back is bad. Add his extremely limited offensive game and his poor footwork and attitude and you are going to see teams expose him more and more if they make the playoffs.

As good as we were with Dwight, I also felt like we would never win a title unless we got a star wing. He just was so easy to shut down. The pistons did it every year, then the Celtics. Only time we got past them, they did not have Garnett (who mastered defending dwight).

I watch Vucivic, who is still developing, and his offensive game is miles ahead of Dwights. He displays incredible touch, scores from both blocks, keeps the ball high, can shoot from 12 feet out..and he is only in his second year. But he is doing the things a C has to do to be a scoring threat.

I don't think Dwight will ever develop those skills. Add to the fact that his back possibly will never get better, and honestly, I feel sorry for the Lakers if they give him a max deal. The truth it, with all those question marks, he will STILL most likely get a max deal this summer.

I think the best situation for him is to go play next to Dirk in Dallas if he wants to win a ring. That is the ultimate pairing. Mayo is a very nice SG, and Dirk is an incredible player. It already worked with Tyson Chandler, who basically is a poor man's D12.

If I'm not mistaken, Mayo's a FA after this year too though. The problem for any team that signs Dwight to a max deal would be getting those pieces to surround him with. On paper it isn't like LA is that bad of a fit.

You say he needs a star wing...well there is that Kobe guy out in LA who's still pretty good. Replace Gasol with a true stretch 4 to fit Dantoni's scheme, add some depth, and they could do work next year. Dwight's gotta get healthier and hold up his end of the bargain though.

EDIT: Mayo has a player option. He could always opt out and try to get more money on the FA market, I would love to see him in Chicago.

Cool

D12's strength always was his defense and his Achilles heel has been the charity stripe brickitosis. Until he can regain his defensive mobility and conquer his atrocious FT-shooting, he will be a liability in any lineup.

I was talking about the Magic though. Im not talking about LA, which runs a different scheme then what the Magic did. Orlando built the entire offense around Dwight. It was too easy to crowd the 3 point shooters since we did not have a star wing that could create his own shot. If LA gets the stretch 4, than they will be running a similar scheme and it will help for sure.....if Dwight is healthy like you said.

I am pretty sure Dallas has a ton of expirings and will be able to resign Mayo if he opts out and get Dwight (if dwight wants to play there and take a financial loss). Dirk, OJ, Dwight is really nice on paper. I'd take it over Kobe and Dwight because Kobe and Dwight just don't have any chemistry. Of course, Dwight has never had much chemistry with anyone. He is not exactly the most liked guy in the league.

Dwight is in the same boat as LBJ was a a free agent. I am pretty sure LBJ took a paycut to play in Miami, but he rebuilt his image when he won a title. I personally think Dwight next to Dirk would be optimal for him to win a title. Even more than Kobe.

Derrick Rose still not playing nearly 11 months after his ACL injury...every rehab is different.

Ben McLemore looking like a top lottery pick...very impressive game for KU vs WVU today. There would be a little Jayhawk connection between him and Vaughn in Orlando.
