Default Denis Kudla wins 75K Chalottesville Challenger

Watched the final this afternoon. Kudla won in impressive fashion over Alex Kuznetsov 6-0, 6-3.

Kudla looked impressive all tournament. I fully expect to see him as a permanent fixture in the top 100 next season.

Question about challengers. Does this mean Kudla won 75,000 dollars or is the entire tournament's prize money pool equals 75,000 dollars?

Entire prize money for the tournament was 75K. As the winner, Kudla got a check for $10,400.

I really like Kudla's game and the fact that the US Davis Cup captain (Courier) has said great things about his game and work ethic.

Kudla is playing in the 50K Knoxville challenger this week. He plays Jack Sock in the first round. That'll be a good match up...

I wonder how much he paid for travel, lodging, food, equipment, etc. and how much he actually ended up making.

Not sure about travel and equipment - but families house players for the week and typically provide breakfast and dinner. I housed a player who lost in the final round of qualifying. My whole family had a blast having him around!

P.S. I know Denis was housed by a family as he thanked them in his speech.

Travel was not much for him...he's from the DC area so he probably dropped about $50 in gas.

I'm sure he's thrilled with a $10K check but the important rewards are the points and the confidence garnered by a great week. Two years ago he was playing Futures with total pots of $10K.

Courier was asked about the young americans at Madison Square Garden exo MOnday night and he mentioned Kudla with Steve Johnson, Harrison. Courier expects Johnson to be in the top 100 soon.

Kudla vs. Sock is a rivalry, they played in the US Open boys final.

Good to see Kudla back on track he struggled earlier this year.

Big win for Kudla, thanks for the score Murrayalmagrofan. I know Sock had a winning head to head on Kudla. Sock is so unpredictable.
