Stepanek lost to Ferrer but there is no shame in losing to the world nr.5 when you are nr.33 in the world.

Berdych, the guy with the slam final, the sixth player of the world nearly got beat AT HOME, ON A FASTCOURT, by a guy who only has clay titles to his resume. And in the end it was Almagro's s**t serve that undid him in the fifth. With the trashtalking and bad blood I would've thought that Birdman would at least win in straights with bakery products but that was clearly not the case.

Nicolas Almagro, has no finals on HC,grass and carpet but he does have 18 finals on clay, 12 of which he was won.

Even if Berdych was right about Almagro, its hard to see him as a hardass coming out of the tie. He got his *** handed to him by Ferrer so thoroughly that it was humorous.

I feel bad for Ferrer. He played his part to perfection. Good thing he has already won the DC 3 times.

In doubles there is no doubt that Worm carried the team.

Berdych, when he had the chance to clinch it and be a hero, was manhandled by the guy who is next to him in rankings, Ferrer. And while David can play on fastcourt, you wouldn't expect him to maul Berdych at home.

So at 2 all, Stepanek came through and beat a guy who is ranked 20 places above him. He dealt with the pressure wonderfully even if Almagro didn't exactly play his best tennis.

Berdych barely beat the guy he was supposed to trash, was mauled by his equal and was carried by his much lower ranked partner in doubles.

How is he the hero again?

What Berdych did was the equivalent of trashtalking someone while hiding behind your big brother(even though, by rank, berdych should have been the big bro here).

At the start of this tie I thought that the spaniards would get crushed but they actually had a fighting chance. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Verdasco would have probably put up a better performance in singles, against stepanek at least.

Berdych won, Almagro lost! Nothing elese needs to be said.

First off, Berdych did not trash talk Ferrer, he knows better than that. He talked down Almagro and the Spanish doubles team, and everything he said ended up being true.

And if you think Stepanek won this DC rubber on his own, you obviously were not watching last weekend...

Berdych was clearly tired in that match.

Eitherway it doesn't matter; Berdych won/Almagro lost...

Spain made a tactical mistake to choose Almagro instead of Lopez. Both of them not the best when it comes to big match play but Lopez still more natural player than Almagro on fast surfaces.

Actually, Ferrer should have given Stepanek two sets and 3 hours of play more. In that case they might have lost doubles

how much tennis had ferrer played in the last 4-6 weeks?...if berdych had half of ferrer's heart and soul he'd be a slam champion already

Exactly. I miss the old days when guys got ugly with people they didn't like.

Agree, Lopez is known to be a head case at times and hasn't had the results that Nico has this year, but still a better player on this surface. Has more weapons to beat the likes of Berdych and the Worm.

On the other hand I'm pretty happy for the worm, he pulled out the match of his life and should be extreemely proud.

I like to see some guys playing with personal grudges - as well as guys who genuinely like each other and hang out together.
We need more McEnroe-Lendl and McEnroe-Borg rivalries.
Too many automatons who really don't care one way or the other about the other players, just hanging out with their camp followers.
By the way, I miss Soderling.

Funny that Soderling came to mind. He has however turned baby face a little bit following his French Open Exposure.
