Default The Who! - What a couple of old guys

I saw The Who concert and show in the Greensboro Colloseum last Friday night. Unbelievable! Daltry is 68; Townsend is 67 and they put on a 2 hour show. First part was the entire Quadraphenia album. Again unbeleviable. 5:15 was perfect and spot on. Then, without break, they did all the old stuff; Pinball Wizard and big hits from "Who's Next". It damned near killed me. How can these old guys stand up to the punishment that these shows dole out? Daltry's voice is not what it used to be. Not surprising. But the music was still the same. "We're all wasted!"

Just so you know, Quadrophrenia is "old stuff"... Did see them live in the late 80's and it was old stuff then, glad to hear they've still got it. I am getting to the age that I am ticking Bands/Acts off the "gotta see em before they're/I'm gone" list. Saw Leonard Cohen over the weekend...

Question

I'm just wondering if the Zappa line "Roger Daltrey never laid a hand on me" holds as much significance now that SexyRoger is near 70???

Indeed. By Who's Next, they had already started to reign in their volcanic power. If the Who wanted to, they could have been heavier than Black Sabbath. Check out the Live at Leeds version of My Generation. At 12:41, they go into a "biker riff" and absolutely crush it.

Are you guys talking about the same two relics that stunk up the field in Miami at halftime of Super Bowl XLIV?

Could be.
Who are we to say the Who are not an absolutely vital band in the history of rock?
Kansas are to rock what , say ,Tim Mayotte is to tennis.
Boring and conventional .

I paid $16. for 2 tickets to see The Who in the summer of 1968.
Two years later, my band played on the same stage. Tickets were $2.

So I guess The Who were 4 times better than we were.

The next year The Who (and many megastars of 60's rock) devalued themselves by performing at a FREE show...Woodstock! So your band was infinitely better than R&R HOFers!

These guys are still going strong! Yes the voice is always the problem when getting older, especially when they had a hard life (drinking, drugs etc..)
Last year i saw Bob Dylan live, very good band and music but it's hard to call that singing, it was barely talking
I thought Deep Purple gave up Child in Time a long time ago due to the high notes...

ps: John Fogerty still rocks...
