This is a proud-brag! Any who, I have a related thread in the tips section, and you could argue that this might belong in the fitness section, but there is a definite element which involves my NTRP rating. Since I post in this section most frequently and since you are my closest "cyber friends" I decided to put it here. I am not really looking for answers to a question ... just throwing out a status report from the middles states.
One year ago I thought I was expecting the bump to 4.5 and it did not happen. At that time I dedicated myself to getting better. For the past year my first goal was to get better and earn the bump this year and my second goal was to improve to the point where I would actually contribute on a 4.5 team. My first step was to lose weight. Last year, post thanksgiving I was 294 pounds. I am now orbit around 250 pounds. Second step was to improve my game ... I did some lessons with a local pro, but I think the biggest difference in this area was video recording myself. I would video record myself at least once a month and looked at target areas for improvement. I think the video analysis has paid off the most. This year I did get the bump ... and I have already had several suitors asking me to play for their 4.5 team next year, which makes me happy. So if you would like to see my evolution from over the past year feel free to look for yourself. What I look like on the court now Groundies at 290 All of my posted videos can be found in this thread.

Congratulations on the good work.
This has motivated me to drop from 190# to 165#, which I perceive to be my ideal tennis weight. |

Imagine how well you'd move at 215 lbs., which would be your ideal playing weight.
Imagine DelPortro at 290 lbs., then down to 250, and how well he'd hit at 190. |

Good work. Odd looking strokes though. The bh is the most unconventional.

Couple of my best tennis buds are 6'1" and 215 lbs...prolly closer to 225 after a sixpack.
They can RIP the ball. They can initially move as well as anyone. They still have endurance problems. |

Kinda depends on build as well as purely height, doesn't it?
One of my buds is thin, so should weight maybe 175lbs. The other has wider shoulders than most lineman in football, and wrists wider than my ankles, and calfs waaay bigger than my thighs. He should weigh maybe 200 when in shape. |

Just a shade over 6-2 ... and while 190 would be wonderful I have not seen that weight since before college. 225 would be wonderful and I would take that in a heart beat.

Excellent job man. For any of you guys who don't quite get the magnitude of this achievement, go strap a bag of dog food to your chest and play 3 sets :-0

Congrats on the weight loss! Hope you can keep that going in the right direction.
Agree with someone above that the backhand is certainly very unconventional, but you definitely look like a good player. |

Dizzle, you've earned your humble brag. You are no fly by night. You've documented your plight and shown us how you work. You are a good dude. Keep it up!

Nicely done. Truth be told, I didn't think you looked 290+ in your 1st vid, so you hold (or held) your weight well.
I've often wanted to video myself while playing, but always wondered how to go about doing it. Do you just use your phone, or do you have a real camera? How/where do you attach it on the court fence/curtain to get a good view? |

If I saw you across the net in 8.0 mixed, I would probably fake an injury and retire. You look very imposing.

I made a mount, for $5.00, that allows any camera to be mounted on the top of a fence or net.

Big guys, probe the backhand side low volley first, it's usually the weak spot requiring bending of the knees, lowering of the racket type movement.
