Default Synthetic grip compression question

I am testing out a few leather grips to try and match the thickness of a standard synthetic grip.

Most synthetic grips seem to be about 1.7 to 2mm thick. My initial thought was a leather grip that comes in at 1.8mm would replicate the thickness, but I didnt take into account the compression that naturally happens once you grip a synth grip, compared to a firmer leather grip.

Therefore, in your opinions, do you think that to replicate thickness more accurately, a leather grip that is 1.5mm thick would be more like for like than one that is 1.8mm?
