Default String length for PSL

I was wondering if anyone was able to squeeze out the mains with something like gut with only 20 feet. I ask because I would like to try gut mains on the racket, and I would love to be able to get two sets of 20' mains instead of only being able to do one set of mains per set of gut (use 21, only have 19 left over).

Thanks!

PSL = Pure Storm Limited? 18x20 = 21 feet for mains. If you know how to bridge, then MAYBE you could use 20 feet. Try using some 20 feet of cheap syn gut and see if you can do the mains.

Yep pure storm limited. I do know how to bridge. I'll try with a cheap synthetic. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it before.

Thanks.

YMMV. Sometimes the manufacturers are generous with string lengths and you can do it with 20'. Other times, they are right on in order to have enough to tie off. You could also string the mains without applying tension to see how much slack you have left. Just keep in mind that 'stretchy' strings will elongate by 3-5% depending on tension and gauge. HTH.

The only way to know is to first use 21 feet. Then measure the cut-off on both sides. So if you get a total of 2 feet, a foot per side, then you can probably get away with 20 feet with a bridge and have about 6 inches to tie off with.

I'm about to string a Pure Storm Tour with VS Touch 16. I'll let you know the results.

But the Pure Storm Tour is a 16x20, with length for mains of 20'. The 2 extra mains in the Pure Storm Limited may cause problems, which is why I agree with you to try it with something other than gut to determine if 20' will work.

I know the PST is 16x20, but one more pair of mains is only about a foot longer. I ended up with 17.5" which should leave about 6" on each side. Barely enough to be able to tie a knot, but you will need to use a bridge to pull the last main.

FWIW, I used a half set of VS Touch 16 at 51lbs, pre-stretched on the mains. I did not measure the half set, I just cut a full set in half.
