I think it works to some extent... it really pumps you up and elevates your game. worked for me. I was playing the 3rd seed, 68 in the state and i took the first set, he took the second in a close one after a rain delay. and match was already turning into a bloodshed. no one was gonna let down, in the tiebreaker, it was close until 6 all, and I hit a great shot 7-6 and I let out a loud "cmon" (not my first), and i was really pumped then, winning 2 straight pts, and on his serve down 6-9, i crushed his second serve to the corner, and finished the match with an overhead. 10-6. My adreneline was really going in that tiebreak, he had no answer for my bruising shots... if i was that focused and pumped the whole match, i woulda been over in an hour.

lol. If anyone pulled a c'mon on me I'd look at them and say:
"Are you ********?" Really, it seems like a childish thing to do. |

It really depends on what type of person you are. If you are the emotional type there is no point bottle'ing all that emotional up. "Come ons" are really just tennis versions of a player congraulating his/herself. In basketball their is the chest bumps and towel waving, in american football there is the dancing at the end-zone, in football there is the players sliding on the grass, in baseball there is the players piling up at home plate, etc.. There is no reason to call it childish, it is just feeling good about yourself.
But really i think it is good to celebrate no matter what type of person you are. But just don't manufacture the "come ons" to look like the pros or do it in a way insulting to your opponent. Thats my 2 cents |

It is a stupid thing to say. Why stop there. Why not just say, "Bring it!" to tick off your opponent even further???

If you wanna say "c'mon" after a winner, I say go for it.
What's so unsportsmanlike about it? I shot a winner; I'm going to pump MYSELF up. |

I never ever said Cmon or for that matter anything other than score during the match.
During the breaks between games i will talk with my partner (who is also a good friend of mine) on various stuff. But during the game i try to stay calm and execute my plan(s) I wouldnt give any gestures whatsoever. My friends often report that i take game a bit more serious but i dont get upset when iam loosing. Whatever my feelings are , they stay within me. But thats me. Iam sure every person has a way of dealing with stuff. I dont like to say CMON or etc but at the same time i have nothing against opponents saying that (but i would internally laugh at them for sure). |

All I can say is, what goes around comes around. Pride comes before the fall and how hard they fall. Unless you have a game like Hewitt, I think it is weird to promote your amateur game like that pumping your fists like you captured your prey. Lame. Just hit the damn ball and let the score speak for you.

I think "come on" is great. Damn, you got to encourage yourself, it is tough out there. I don't think you should stare down your opponent when you say this. I usually say "Compete" because sometimes I tend to get very lazy and miss shots just because I do not make that little extra effort necessary to stay in the point.
You got to love the game. |

It depends.
Some opponents will get ****ed. I have one practice partner who plays LOTS better when he's ****ed at *me*. I'd never do a "C'mon" with him. On the other hand, some opponents play worse when they are ticked-off. I hope you know which opponents to "C'mon" with ... and which ones not to.... As for me? Just play the game. - KK

none of us will ever be able to play the type of technical and mental game federer does - he almost never shouts out after a poor or great shot. he can pump himself up, get himself started in a match, focused, right off the first point.
us HUMANS, though, aren't very capable of focusing in and starting off fast on a consistent basis. you shouldn't be letting out a plethora (alwayz wanted to use that word) of C'MON!s, cuz that'd just ruin the effect of them. let's say--- you're playing horribly in a tourney, but are still sticking around in the match, mebbe down 3-5, it's your opponent's serve, and you have breakpoint 30-40. you hit a return ace winner to get back on serve. im pretty sure some type of emotion should be permitted then. if i stayed quiet, i'd just treat that like any other shot and end up just saying it was a fluke. instead, if i let out a yell or somethin, it'll get me thinking "i can win this match". that momentum'll carry me to hold serve and maybe break serve, taking the 1st set. and as we all know, it's better winning a set than losing one. obviously, overusing CMONs is pretty stupid. itll probably enrage the opponent and he'll want to beat u even THAT more. i guess like everything, if it's used in moderation-- at the right time and completely spontaneous or on-the-whim -- THEN thats fine. it should NEVER be used for tactical purposes |

I would do it only on epic points, like those long 1-2 minute ones.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind it, but why pick "cmon"? If you were provoking your opponent I would get why, but if you were pumping yourself up, wouldn't you just cheer your own shot? Maybe, a "YES!" or something. But why steal something from a pro? But if it pumps you up, no problem.
