You are going to let me if you are able and did smack a between the legs winner after getting lobed at the net that you are just going to nod and move on? Thats unreal.

Infact fed was a hardcase as a junior and the only time has actually burst out was at (Miami or Pacific Line ) that outburst unsettled Nadal and Fed's play Durastically increased and he WON !!!

#1 - I never hit the "Tweener". It's too high-risk and if I could hit that, I can also hit the Jai-lai shot ... which, for me, is much higher percentage.
#2 - When I *do* hit the Jai-lai for a winner, I want my opponent to know it wasn't some fluke shot. (In fact, I am very good at it.) I want my opponent to believe I can *smoke* him like that anytime. Acting like you just amazed yourself simply accentuates the rarity of the accomplishment.

So "Yes". I nod and move on.

The chicken or the egg thing. Which came first the rush of adrenaline or the "c'mon". Maybe I misunderstood the OP but I thought his position to be that the "c'mon" was a means towards an end. I took his premise to be that he GOT the adrenaline pump from using a catch phrase, rather than the outburst being spontaneous, RESULTING FROM the excitement of the moment. As if when feeling flat out there, saying a couple of deliberate, audible "c'mon's" would lift one's play a level or two. That excited level comes from match-play experience, sharp focus and emphasizing movement, not saying "shazaam" a couple times.

I don't disagree with "letting it go" every once in a while after hitting a big winner at a pivotal point in a match and AFTER completing a mission in the war, after a break or pocketing a set (Actually, releasing prematurely could result in an emotional let down on the next, perhaps bigger point[s]). But there is also value in "acting like you've been there before". Sending a message that the amazing winner you just hit, that you never made in anything but practice before, "was no big deal" and part of your normal arsenal can be very disconcerting to an unfamiliar opponent.

If you follow American football and are old enough to remember or have seen film of Hall of Fame running back, Jim Brown, you may be aware that he had a consistent reaction to being tackled. He would intentionally lay motionless on the turf for several seconds after every tackle, uncomfortably longer than most every other player. Why? He wasn't resting or catching his breath. While it didn't happen often, sometimes Brown was stunned or injured by a hit. But because he laid there motionless after EVERY hit, the opponent would NEVER KNOW if he hurt the star even after that opponent had just unloaded his best shot on Brown.

i heard he started doing that after the first few mindboggling hits he endured, just to make sure he could wiggle his toes, move his arms, make sure nothings dead. he took major PUNISHING during his i think 8 year career. i've seen alot of him on NFL Films, thats just nasty. did u also notice how he stutterstepped right as the ball was handed off to him? made it a hell of a lot easier for photographers.

the three greatest HBs of all time had shortened careers, sadly, and stats dominate everything so we all know about emmitt smith and company. but not enough recognition or credit is given to the greatness of jim brown, gale sayers, and barry sanders.

Yeah same. Except I don't even nod. I just turn my back, walk back to the baseline... next point. I rarely celebrate at all. I feel no need to. "You still have lots more to work on." is what I keep telling myself. Maybe I'm pretty close to Federer's temperament... although I do get frustrated if I'm not playing well.

Nah, I'm not offended, this bad talk and insanity is typical of one who watches Late Night with Conan O'Brien. -sorry if you find it offensive...jk, I love that show.

You know, I think you're right. I got carried away with the previous comments.

Well said, FiveO.

I thought your football analogy was going to be a reference to the quote frequently attributed to Paul Brown, Hall of Fame NFL Coach, who would admonish his players who celebrated flamboyantly in the End Zone, with "act like you've been there before."

Yeah. That's it....

Its different with all people. there isnt one way, some people are motivated by it, some people are angered by it, some people are annoyed by it, and for some people, it makes no difference. i mean, federer lets out a cmon every now and then, hewitt does it on big pts.
