Default Which half set of natural gut to buy

I don't string myself. I want to uses a gut/poly setup in an 2012 Pure Drive. The only half set gut packages sold on TW are Klip, Pacific, Head, and Titan. Any recommendations on which to buy are appreciated. In addition, if I buy a full set of VS, can it be resealed and used in a couple of months later? Thanks in advance.

I'd spring for Wilson gut then. New vs is garbage. Just make sure you seal it tightly in a ziplock bag and keep it in a closet away from light.

VS is sold as a half set btw.

Whether you want to think it's "garbage" is up to you to decide.

Thanks, I missed it. It does seem that VS is the gold standard for gut.

It probably wasn't your fault you missed it. It's not listed under the natural gut category in the string finder. You have to specifically look for it in the babolat string section or by name through the search bar.

I'm very happy with the RPM Blast/VS black combination.

Pacific Gut, if you like a crisper feel.

Gut/poly in a pure drive? Too much power, unless you have the strength of a twelve year old boy.

Don't buy Wilson gut as your first gut. You have to do your time with trash gut first, or you'll never appreciate a fine string. Get Gaucho Natural Gut and Gosen Polylon. Or those strings from India selling on e Bay. Whatever you do, do NOT buy Champion's Choice.

I get Pacific Tough Gut. It's going to feel stiffer than others, which I think is a good pairing with comparatively very stiff poly. It seems to last very well in a hybrid

That's actually pretty good advice, I sort of ruined my image of what really great gut and awful gut is because I used VS before using cheaper ones. Maybe if I lay off of tennis for a year.......nope too addicted.

I tried several guts (all with poly hybrids). Pacific Classic is my gut of choice. Klip was okay but I didn't like the way it would fray so easily. Wilson Natural gut was so similar to the Pacific that I couldn't justify paying the premium for Wilson. Gaucho is complete garbage.

Co-sign. I have really liked Tough Gut in poly hybrids.

I appreciate your comments. Could you provide any recommendations for the Pure Drive. I'm pushing 50 yo, a 4.0 player, but am afraid of injuring my arm. I haven't had any injuries in the past. I was thinking that the Pure Drive might provide a little "free power" as I get older. I hit a one hand bh, so am a little hesitant of the 100 sq. in rounder shape head. Any other racquet and string combo suggestions are appreciated. Read the article by Roman Prokes in the Wall Street Journal about a week ago, in which he touted gut for most "recreational players" for arm safety, etc...

Thanks to the other with their "gut" recommendation/comments.

VS WAS the gold standard of Gut. Babolat changed the formula of the Gut and ruined it with BT7. Buy the Wilson Gut which is the old VS Gut or the Pacfic Prime Gut.

Babolat ruined VS Gut and Tonic Gut with BT7. Why change a gut string that had been perfect for 135 years? It's now overpriced garbage.

VSBABOLAT,

How about Prince gut? At some point I read that all the natural gut came from Babolat, just branded for others. Do you know anything about this?

Another vote for Pacific Tough Gut. It is my favorite for Gut/Poly hybrids. Pacific Classic is my #2.

From reading customer reviews on TW, the Pacific Prime Gut is not their favorite. Could you tell us how VS Gut has changed? I've only used it over the past two years so I have no reference.

VS used to be uncoated and had more "feel" and was "less stiff". Now VS is coated with BT7 to make it "last longer" but at the detriment of loosing feel and feeling stiffer than the original VS gut. Many here claim that Wilson NG is made for Wilson by Babolat in France in the original VS formula but this is yet to be substantiated.

I string both of my PD2012s with 100% NG (currently one with Wilson 17G and one in VS 17G) at 60#. Perfect control, pop, comfort (for me, anyway).

If I were to try a poly, there is no doubt what-so-ever that I'd first try 17G Wilson NG mains with Lux 4G (1.25) crosses... both at 60#. The 4G (from what I've read) has the absolute least tension loss and the most comfort of all ploys.

The original non BT7 had the thermogut coating, as well as the newer BT7.
My understanding is the newer BT7 is not the coating of it is different, but the # of strands of the nat. gut string. The old VS had 15 strands where the newer one has 7 thicker strands which was to make it more durable but also alters the characteristics of the string that makes it hit different than the old VS which is why many here do not like the new BT7, as whenever there is a change in composition then there is a resultant change in the feel.
The Wilson Nat. gut is made by Babolat from what I was told, as another poster here commented that when Wilson gut first came out it had VS Touch written on the string. The Wilson Nat. gut hits like the old VS gut.
