Default baseline ground strokes

What do you guys think of my forhand/backhand strokes? I find myself quite good at hitting those shots, although I do fall a little bit on my back...

so this place has been over-discussing the fh and ignoring everything else... yours is a good evidence for that.

fh is your best shot, slightly more accurate footwork and more relaxed racket drop will help... but you hit it good.

bh - the closed stance 2hbh is supposed to hit off the front foot... you have weight shift problem there... you are spinning out and falling backwards.

slice - you chop at the ball with no target in mind... you have to set the racket face, at top of the backswing, at the exact angle you want to make contact at, then cut down and push forward at the same time, while maintaining the same angle.

volley - wrong grip and too much slapping at the ball.... needs rework.

Did anybody else think of Jim Courier when you saw that backhand? As previously observed, forehand is pretty good. I further agree, that you would do better if you relaxed your arm and didn't fall back.
Yeah, the volleys/slice need work. With a slice, I would still try to drive through the ball more. I would look at videos of Djokovic or Safin to try and re-work your two hander.

Your fh looks good but you are missing some fundamentals in the swing. If you watch your video you can see there is an inconsistency of where your take back position actually begins. I understand that the fh shots were all relatively different but you are missing some core components.

You are trying way too hard with your current fh. What I mean is that it appears you are putting a large amount of force into the shot in order to make it penetrate through the court. Instead you should focus on improving the fh progression alone. If you follow the core movements your form alone will be enough to produce your current pace. Once you have perfected that and add power and spin into the shot there is no telling what you could do with it.

There are two fundamental problems with your fh, the first is your take back and the second is your follow through. Your have virtually no follow through and here is what I mean by that. In your fh shots you are exerting additional energy to STOP the racquet rather than allowing it to continue its follow through. This is actually quite normal and it a mental challenge to teach yourself to continue the swing.

Go back to the basics and find a way to create a structured forehand. Every fh you hit should contain the core fundamentals -

Your bh needs more work than the fh. I would suggest you focus on improving one specific aspect of your game at a time. The main problems with your bh are timing, positioning and stance, footwork, take back, swing path and follow through. Do not misunderstand me your bh is good but is missing a lot of fundamentals

luvforty nailed your slice. You simply chopped at the ball. All slicing should begin over your shoulder and you should be looking to use a continental grip.

I would say you are a level 2 player. You are attempting to overpower the ball rather than using consistent execution. If you focus on the basics and work on form and footwork the timing comes with it.

Feel free to ask follow up questions here or by pm.

Good luck mate

Please tell me where do you see when my racquet stops. I have proper swing, I hit it in front of myself and my racquet motion stops on the opposite shoulder/or behind my back.

I actually have a detailed email that I sent out to some students that has tons of details and links. I can email it to you. I can post it here but it is pretty long.

First swing - Your hand/arm does not pass your left shoulder but instead you are allowing your waist to over rotate which is giving you the impression that you are completing the follow through.

Second swing is almost the same. Your right hand is not going behind your body and this is what I mean about wasted energy by stopping your swing path.

Keep in mind that right now I am only talking about the follow through and not your actual shot. Things need to be broken down.

Here is an example of the correct form regarding follow through.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_yWe...duBjag&index=9

Watch at 9 seconds. The 4th time Federer swings the racquet. He is hitting pretty gently but look at the follow through. It is wrapping around his back. The racquet head goes so far behind him that it is almost parallel with the back of his head. Your racquet is not even passing your left shoulder. Watch your video and pause at the very completion of your first or second swing and then pause Federer's video at the completion of his 4th swing. The difference is vast. Your problem is mostly mental and I went through the exact same phase. I felt like I was really following through but I was stopping very short like you are. Once you start pushing yourself to really wrap the racquet around you end up getting tons of extra pace with no extra effort. When the form is correct you will be able to hit blistering shots that look effortless.

Let me know about that write-up if you are interested

No I get it. Just for start I'll try less movement with body and more with arm so I'll see where it would get me.

I will continue this conversation (about my other shots), but got no time right now, some student obligations are in process. :P

Although I just wanna mention up, that I use continental grip in slice shots, maybe in that shot in video it can't be seen, but I'm using it, for sure.

And yes, please send me that email, I'm interested in what you got to say, thx.
