According to "tennisreporters":

Matt Cronin ‏@TennisReporters
Its right big toe: Azarenka had bad pedicure 10 days ago, 2 much of nail cut, piece of nail infected toe had it taken out by doc yesterday

Matt Cronin ‏@TennisReporters
Doctors told Azarenka not 2 play for 3-4 days but she thinks she could be ready in 2 days or so. Taking antibiotics. Will be fine 4 AO

...that's a new one.

Oh please....she destroyed 2 opponents before this easily, her toe wasn't an issue then?

I smell a little fear coming from Azarenka's side of the court!

Was she planning on playing in open-toe heels?

While destroying them, and possibly training, Vika opened the horrible wound. Got infected. In another part of the interview, she said the pedicurist gave her the infection.
Sources say one reporter bent down to smell the infection. Rather smelling like in the inside of a tennis shoe, it smelled vaguely fishy.

In my heart of hearts, I believe Azzarenka wants to play AzzaRena. But her handlers are advising her to wait until a possible clash in Melbourne. This has to do with buildup and theater. Oh, and as you mentioned, fear.
