![]() ![]() what is the white tape that some pros use on their grip? i'm trying to find something that sticks better than electrical tape to finish a short overgrip but that doesn't tear up a synthetic grip when you take it off.

Pretty sure it's a heat shrink sleeve.

Its white tape to hold their overgrip...No way a pro would use a heat-srink grip build-up. They have all their grips custom molded.

I think that's just white athletic tape.

couple of things:
1. its definitely white athletic tape. they just go into the trainers room and pick up a big roll. we even did it when we needed some for our clients. <previous stringer here for various companies> from what i remember, pete's was regular atheltic tape, but then switched to actual white finishing tape (prob Babolat). he would use a really long strip of it so that when he took off the previous grip, he could always reuse the finishing tape on the next one since it was so long. much quicker to do this on change-overs, etc. 2. not ALL players have custom molded grips. many are happy with the stock size. you have to realize that alot get used to what they grew up with a juniors, and dont make a change. the only time they will consider a change is when they change racket companies, but dislike the new handle. they might choose to have a "wilson" handle put on their new head racket. |

Why use tape? I use the rubber band they put on most of the rackets now that goes over the tape holding the grip. Holds the grip perfectly and when you want to change he overgrip slide it up remove the old install the new and slide the rubber band back down over it.

Athletic tape? You mean in place of the red tape tournagrip supplies? Or does it work in a way I'm not understanding...?

Sampras eventually used the red finishing tape later in his career. I'm sure it's because he got an endorsement deal with Unique for using Tournagrip.
That's their trademark. The specific color blue overgrip finished with red tape......You see it in their packaging back with Sampras, and now with Blake. ![]()
