Terrific tennis player, entertaining to watch, but something about his fat head irritates me immensely. Put it this way, if I saw Andy Murray at a bar, I wouldn't approach him enthusiastically and engage in a long conversation (implying he wants to speak to me, which, realistically, wouldn't be the case).
He isn't the best ambassador for the sport, but that's the least of my concerns. It's just when I watch him play on court, I can never favor nor support him. Tonight will clearly be no different. And the same would apply if he makes the GS final. I look at the big four and see this... Federer - will support on occasion, depending on his opponent. Nadal - frequently support. Djokovic - see Federer. Murray - never. I am probably not alone on this call. But man, why can't Murray be more likable? I am an obnoxious selfish tennis viewer who wants someone of Murray's caliber to be more pleasant. Unfortunately, from my standpoint, this isn't the case. Not sure why (so don't ask), but I instinctively don't like him. I guess if I were a Brit it'd be extremely different. I don't like Tomic's attitude much at all, however, because he is an Australian and I am an easily-manipulated couch potato, I support him 95% most of the time. Ah, I feel better now.

It's ok, I feel the same way about Lance. We can't help who we instinctively like and dislike, it's wired into our brains.

I don't like him, but I don't mind him...
Yes he has that sulky attitude on court but in general he comes across as quite a low-key, humble guy. Plus he has more variety than both Nadal and Djokovic. |

He can be a bit surly on court and have a lousy attitude at times, but I like Andy off court enough to root for him when he plays. He has a good sense of humor and can be witty as well in interviews. Too bad his on court behavior puts people off so much they don't give him a chance. I sure like him a whole heck of a lot more than I like Lance.

Theres nothing about him that screams superstar. Whether its his bland look, or bland game..
Ive tried to like the guy for YEARS and be a big fan.. I just find it impossible. Nole and Nadal? Sure.. Murray no. Hes just so bland.. His game and his look and personality. I wouldn't care much about his personality (Sampras had a pretty boring personality but his game was AWESOME to watch especially when hes zoning and screaming "Yea" or "come on" ) if he just had a fun game to watch I respect Murray's hard work and dedication but just can't be a big fan of his Last edited by 90's Clay : 01-24-2013 at 04:28 PM. |

Now that he is won a slam....it back to not liking him. It his entitled attitude that rubs most people off. Arrogant counterpuncher.

If you want to say Federer dopes, then you might as well include Nadal and Djokovic to the equation, not like I actually agree with you.

That's fair enough, at least you can appreciate his game. I can never really get my head around people saying his game is boring, he's a pusher etc.. You have to question what it is they're looking at really.
I'm lucky to of met him in person and he's very easy to like, his personality is as big a reason for me to be a fan as his game is. |

Murray is a misunderstood guy, he might pout on court and get angry with himself but its all directed internally. Off court he is a little shy and awkward but a nice, genuine guy IMO. His game is very smart, lots of variety. At times he can be a little too cookie-cutter defensive (just like Nadal) but when his game is flowing its a joy to watch, like Rafa's.

I'm the opposite... from the first time I watched him play, I instinctively liked him a lot, and no matter how much I like anyone else, if they're playing Andy, I'm rooting for him. What it boils down to, I think, is how utterly ordinary he seems... that same lack of a superstar quality that makes him boring or distasteful to others is completely charming to me. He's a fairly unattractive guy with a low-key manner who has perfectionism issues and works really hard and doesn't always or even often get what he wants, but sometimes, just sometimes, it all comes together.
How could I not root for that guy? I love Federer, I think Djokovic is lovely, Nadal seems like a great fella. But it's always Murray I'm gonna be rooting for, in the end. If it's not Murray, I'm rooting for Federer, because I love seeing him extend the history he's made... he deserves every drop of his success and may his career last forever. He plays the most beautiful tennis I've ever watched. But if Murray's in a match, he's my guy. |

his role is to win tennis matches they way he sees fit, not to be an entertainment monkey.
i don't think he should pander to media pressure to become more likable, or some kind of sanitised sports stooge. I prefer that he remains true to himself even if that rubs a few people the wrong way.

In Switzerland and Austria? Far from stellar character - sore loser, stiff, no sense of humor (improving lately, though...) |
