Chris mentioned this 100% Zyex monofilament in a recent review of another string. Will you be publishing a review of it? If not, would Chris mind sharing his impressions of the string here, especially as compared to copoly and natural gut?

Hi Corners!
I'll pop in here. Steve Crandall of Ashaway just visited TW and I interviewed him on MonoGut ZX. You might find this interview interesting. I'll let Chris add to this, but (as I recall) ZX MonoGut was a little too lively and unpredictable for him. He seems to prefer stiffer/deader polys, so ZX was not a great match for his stroke style. We have no immediate plans to review it. The stiffness results from TWU lab are very interesting. Hope this helps. Jon

Hi Jon, thanks for your response. Given that Chris has taken to copoly at rather high tensions lately to tame the liveliness of open-patterned racquets I guess I should have guessed he'd find MonogutZX too lively.
I agree that the TWU numbers are very interesting for this string, it's just a bit stiffer than natural gut. My thinking is that if a player can control a full bed of natural gut then a full bed of ZX should be controllable too. If Chris or any of the other playtesters feel like comparing ZX to gut in terms of power, shot trajectory and control I'd much appreciate reading it. Cheers |
