What is the best synthetic gut that is a good price and that still plays well? I am a high school player and cant afford the more expensive stuff.

Most synthetic guts are more or less the same but with slightly different feels. If you're a HS player working on a budget, Gosen OG Sheep Micro in natural color is going to give you your best bang per dollar.

I have a soft spot for Prince Original Syn Gut. Different colors play slightly different though...

If you're a stringbreaker, Wilson Red Alert is about the most durable synthetic I've tried. It plays well too.

Prince has a good string lineup, I feel. I use their Prince Synthetic Gut Soft. . . which they "discontinued" but which you can find, through TW's sister company, Racquetball Warehouse, now called "Ektelon Powerplay". Same string, it just had to be set aside to make way for new additions to the string lineup.
Powerplay is a softer version of Original Synthetic Gut. Many players have used Original Synthetic Gut as the baseline measure, or standard, for synthetic gut. It's pretty good stuff. I avoid the Prince synthetic gut with duraflex, since it makes the string feel very stiff, gives a harsh response, etc., but which may be the ticket for stringbreakers who don't want to use kevlar! When it comes to colors, I like the gold. Used to be a wild time about 15 years ago, when you could source Gosen OG in about a dozen colors from Macy's Sales. Back then I'd punk out with purple, or blood red or gold OG.

I always liked Gamma synthetic gut best, non-Wearguard version.

Nobody recommending Forten Sweet today? I thought that was one of the most liked syn guts in here. I am waiting for my first set to arrive soon and will know.

Gosen OGSM 17 is a winner all the way around.
cheap AND decent/good. can't go wrong, get a reel. natural. also makes a good cross for your poly hybrid, if you must.

OGSM 17 plays a good bit stiffer than the Gamma synthetic gut 16. I got a whole 14 games out of OGSM 17! |

I like sweet 17g. It's as crunchy as a bowl of Capt Crunchies.
Don't know why, but I always like OGSM as a cross (especially to dampen harshness of polys) and sweet for mains. But i like Prince Original Syn Gut 17g as well. String moves like legs in a Square Dance but I like the playability of that string (even though I can get only 5 sets with these strings)

Tecnifibre Syn Gut costs less than OGSM, and comes in black on the reel.
