Default Nadal v Ferrer Mexico Final thread

I didn't see a thread for this match but am looking forward to it! Nadal beating Almagro last night was really impressive given where Nadal is at in his comeback!

I know Nadal has a great record v Ferrer but this is probably Ferrer's best chance to bear Rafa I am still going with Rafa in 3.

Ferrer just lacks that one big shot to hurt Rafa but has the consistency to make this tight.

Isner showed that with a huge serve and firepower off the ground you can play Rafa tough, big John is the only man in the history of the game to have taken Nadal to 5 sets at the French Open.

You just ruined this thread with Isner. 5 sets against Nadal in Opening Round with Nadal playing his Worst FO of his life. He played even more badly than 2009.....it was just that bad.

The fact of the matter is he went on to win the tournament that year! And even when Nadal isn't at his best on clay he wins 99% of the time so for Isner to take it to 5 v possibly the the greatest clay courter ever something even Federer and Djokovic haven't managed at the French is remarkable!

Anyway let's stay on topic this promises to be an enthralling match and with a bigger serve and the ability to get more cheap points Ferrer may have had a better chance than he does as things stand.

You really have a thing for Isner, OP. Lol. I bet you even dream about him.

As for this final, I think Ferrer will take it. Nadal barely squeaked by Nico last night and I do not see him beating Ferrer with him playing so well. Daveed in straights.

Love Daveed. Right up there with my favorite players.

But Nadal in 3. It will be a lot closer on clay than normal, but Ferrer does not have the big shot to put Rafa away when it counts.

Almagro is choker....so Nadal playing terrible would still win. Just like he would against Verdasco.

Ferrer will win.....Nadal not ready to beat top 5 level tennis this soon.

Barely squeaked by? He won in straights where Ferrer dropped a set to Fognini...even if Rafa is not at his best Ferrer will need to go God mode to win.

The thing with Ferrer is that he will stay with Rafa in rallies no matter how long they go, whereas Almagro would get anxious and go for winners. It will be a bigger physical test for Nadal imo.

i expect that Nadal will try to shorten points, be more aggressive and even come in a bit more than expected.

Could be a very informative match re: nadal's physical conditioning if it goes to 3 sets.

And then kishnabe mentioned Verdasco... -_- This thread is going to go downhill.

Yep, barely squeaked by. That match was a lot closer than the score line indicates. Nadal mugged it up and Nico mugged it slightly more. Nadal is not going to beat a player as good as Ferrer right now. Nadal even taking a set from him would be an accomplishment.

I agree that it was a close match against Almagro (think Nadal saved set point in the first?), and also think this is as good a chance as Daveed will ever have to beat Rafa on clay. Surely you can't think Rafa has no chance of beating Ferrer though? I gather it'll be a big ask for Rafa to win this one, but I think he can do it.

Actually I do. I don't see anyway for Nadal to beat Ferrer right now. He is better than Nadal is at the moment. Nadal will be fortunate to win a set, or make it competitive at all.

And if Ferrer plays well and Rafa still wins I wonder how you'll spin it.

nadal will win less than ten points total...half of those will be on ferrer double faults, the other half will be point penalties against ferrer as he continually swears at nadal as he's kicking the great "champion's" butt...happy?

how the hell did berdych win so many games today?... way more than three...bizarre

If Ferrer plays well then Nadal has no chance anyway. Well, maybe Nadal would have a slight chance if Ferrer were to disappear from planet earth. That is the only way Nadal would win this match tonight.
