AO'12 final will only be remembered for the drama, length and the time wasting and not quality.

Definitely. The way Stan saved the 2nd MP was insane, not to mention the final MP itself.

I preferred the style of play today, that's for sure.

I just knew djokovic was going down the line on the last match point. then he whips it crosscourt for the winner. what a great match!

I said it in the main thread, but this has to be one of the greatest matches in history. 4 sets of mostly brilliant tennis (with some hiccups and many jaw-dropping moments), and a final set of tremendous drama punctuated with some excellent, gutsy play.

5h of tennis is better than 6h of bouncing balls.

Actually I also think that Verdasco/Nadal AO'09 SF>AO'12 Final.

a classic match up of offense vs defense
far better than 2012 AU final in which you got two guys waiting for each other to make errors one thing is for certain....NOBODY fell asleep watching this one

Yes, one of the greatest matches of all time to me. And I can see this match becoming a thing of legend in the future, particularly if Djokovic goes on to win the tournament, because Wawrinka is the deserved winner.

What this match illustrated to me is Djokovic is not a great offensive player. Stan put this match on his racket and it was the all-time great defensive ability of Djokovic that kept him in it and allowed him to win.
Djokovic should have a narrow window left to contend for slams...3-4 years. Once the defense declines a tad, he's going to be in big trouble. |

It's better than 2012 AO final for me, the main reason being the contrast of styles which makes for the most entertaining matches.
