Can I just say that I KNEW that Stan had the chance to complete the upset prior to the start of the match. I know that you can think I'm talking bull now that the match has finished long time ago. But when I just saw the match up, I just thought 'this is it, if anything would see Djokovic losing this would be it'.

As a big Novak fan, I am thrilled that he won that match. He is truly building a great legacy, with monumental matches. Having said that, it takes two players to put on an epic.
Stan was just majestic throughout that encounter. His sublime play at times made him look like a multi slam winner and world number one. A sensational performance that reminded me of one of my fav matches of all time, Nadal V Verdasco 09. Stan stayed with Novak throughout, and pushed the defending champion to the brink, just as Murray and Nadal did last year. Novak, a true champion managed to fight his way to a win. A great display of heart and passion, from both players. And as Novak said, they both deserved to win that match, but there can only be one. I am glad that Novak is alive, and I hope he gets enough rest and is ready for the upcoming challenges.

you guys really know how to suck the joy out of sport. we understood your respective positions on the line-call, result of the match and which of the player you admire about 35 pages ago.
yet you keep repeating yourselves drowning out any intelligent commentary or other posters sharing their views or asking questions. is there no end to your solipsism and self-centredness?

Ok I 'm a big fan of Djokovic, but I'm pretty gutted for Stan and actually a bit dissapointed. I didn't even see the match til the 4th set because I had a late night and expected the match to be over in a maximum of 4 sets and I couldn't be bothered getting upearly to see if it was on. Then had to go out so watched it on my phone in a pub.
But from what I saw and watching it back at home later, Stan played better and pretty much deserved to win the match. If that out call didn't get made in the 5th set at 4-4 maybe he wins that point, on a replay maybe he wins... he didn't get that bit of luck you need. Not only that but overall he showed massive heart and at times Djokovic seemed to just be hanging on. Getting a little bit sick of the top player always pulling through in these cases. I mean I like Novak, I'm glad he's through but I want him to win because he deserves to win matches, because he plays the amazing tennis. But when the other guy plays the better tennis (I feel) then Djokovic winning feels like a bit of a hollow victory. I'm not saying Djokovic didn't dig deep and take the match, he did and congrats on doing it yet again and saving God knows how many virtual match points, but it's getting a bit wearing to see the top guys always win even when the other guy is playing lights out tennis. The Nadal vs Rosol match was the only upset in recent times, and that shook things up a lot, If Djokovic had lost this match it would have been a big shake up instead of the same old story (though it would be an unbalanced draw) I would now prefer either Federer to win this, or would be nice if it wasn't one of the top 4 and if so I would love to see Tsonga, Gasquet or even Raonic win. But realistically it'll be Djokovic, Murray or Federer. Djokovic should be out at this point leaving Federer and Murray as favourites. Question is now is if Berdych can run him close and then Ferrer gives him a tough match, will the stresses of 4 hard matches in a row begin to tell?

Thanks Gonzo. Oh some trolls were insulting me and when I did it back, banned for "fighting"! Oh well have to laugh
Also have to say that Stan in his interview took the loss very well and Djokovic gave him a lot of compliments. Nice to see their mutual respect at the end of the match. Match of the tournament so far.

The moderators here are very weird. Apparently pretty ban-happy with me yet always_crosscourt is still trolling away till his heart's content.

Hey, can you please edit out my comment. I'll be banned if they read me complaining about how things are run. *whispers "dictators" and runs away*

I went to bed after that utter choke in the second by Wawrinka. That was truly pathetic how he fell apart from 6-1 5-2 up. I am shocked he managed to regroup and make it so close in the end.
Good on him for playing a great match. And good for Djokovic to eke out another close one. However, the cowardice of the underdogs against the big 4 is unbelievable! Makes Rosol's performance against Nadal even more impressive. He was actually tough as nails, whereas most of these other guys don't have the belief. Wishing for some more surprises in tennis, because its getting too predictable.
