what do you think about this strokes?

His serve looks like a WTA serve and his FH looks like a traditional flat FH, almost no spin. I like his BH and he is a very intelligent player. what do you think?

you wouldn't try to coach anyone to hit a FH like that, would you? he's a bit of a one off, really..

seems to have taken some of the cuteness out of his game, no bad thing!

it doesn't look very athletic and elegant but the abbreviated swing is quite well coordinated IMO. and the flat ball is very difficult for players who only see mega topspins. the challenge for flat hitting is consistency and control but it seems tomic has solved that riddle. I'd say it's a great fh.

2 things come to mind when I watch Tomic playing well..
seems like he has lots of time
ease of generating power.. almost deceptive

How refreshing to see his strokes, flat and low with some side spin, he's successful because all of the robots are trained to hit maximum topspin from the baseline, they don't know how to handle it.

It sure would be great is players learned ALL OF THE GAME, net, mid court, side spin, flat shots, top spin, not just "Well here's the new game, giant racquet mindlessly hitting monster topspin from the baseline", "Well here's the number one guy in the world, yea he's not very good at the net", amazing.

Great players work on their weakness' in all sports it seems except for tennis.

I be willing to bet that while it looks pretty flat, given its lower trajectory, his forehand it probably quite "heavy" with a fair bit of topspin. More like a Sampras or even Lendl stroke with a slightly more abbreviated take back. As for his serve - looks almost exactly like Rafter's. Other than maybe Serena, I imagine that a typical WTA player would kill to have his strokes!

I like his strokes. That's not a WTA serve imo. His forehand is definitely flatter than most players, but he still seems to come over the ball a bit on most shots. His flatter stroking technique seems to make for deceptively easy power, especially on the inside out forehand. Here's a court level view video. Some practice points with Ferrer:

I really like his backhand stroke. His FH is really ugly and I think he needs to add some spin to it if he wants to have a consistent weapon in the future.

I'm not a huge fan of his mechanics but I do think that he has a great tennis brain. he knows which ball to play at the right moment and can neutralize the opponents offense pretty good.

It's interesting to note the slight flexed wrist right before the forward swing for Tomic is similar to the wrist work of Murray. It seems both flatten the ball out more than others.

Odd looking, but effortless, rarely looks rushed. Idiosyncratic strokes are sometimes a sign of greatness. What looks odd now might be called brilliant in a couple years if he becomes as successful as it appears he could be. He has a slight ungainliness about him but I think that's just due to how big he actually is. We'll see, but he's played at a very high level all year.

I think his strokes are designed to be more flexible and deceptive. His forehand seems to be hard to read and is capable of doing some 'unique' shots.
