Default Major difference between mens and womens shoes?

Other than the obvious difference in sizing, how does the average women's shoe differ from a mens? Let's say I wear a 10.5 in a Nike 2K10 and the equivalent in a women's would be a 12. Is it gonna fit? Is it basically the same shoe only in chics colors? Or does Nike change it around to fit a women's foot? Same goes for the Breathe Frees that Nike made for years in women's after they stopped making it for men.

In most cases, women-specific shoes will be narrower, particularly at the heel. However, it doesn't mean men cannot wear them (just remember the 1-2 size difference) if they fit, it just means the shape is designed to be proportionately more suitable to the average shape of a woman's foot.

Most women's shoes are built on a different last. The last is normally narrower. So, usually, the same length women's version of a shoe will fit narrower than the men's version.

Did anyone say?: "Women's shoes are specifically designed to withstand shrieking, grunting, moaning AND bogus medical time outs?"
