Default Mto!!!!

I have seen players denied MTO before there opponents serve, the chair telling the player he has to wait before his serve, but often they are allowed to take a MTO before their opponents serve, at very critical stages, this should be mandated, you can only take a MTO before your own serve, none of this, I just lost my serve, I need a MTO, BS!!!!!!!!!

It's the trainers decision ultimately. But they're more strict about it at ATP and WTA tournaments than ITF.

Lame and ridiculous, but unfortunately what happened is not against the rules.

Serena did it last night against Sloane. Nadal does it, Screecherenka does it too.
I see that they're trying to ice the opponent.
It absolutely needs to be regulated more closely, it's unfair and unsportsmanlike.

Absolutely pathetic, the tours should make a rule change. And add in something for your opponent, such as let their coach come on court and coach, something to deter players from this crap.

That's already a rule on the WTA tour. ITF, no.

I've seen it before, I believe it was Yen sun lu, he wanted a mto, but the chair said not before his opponents serve, he had to wait until his serve, which is the way it should be.

they should allow the player to warm up with a practice partner while the opponent is off court.

It happens, and usually the chair will ask if he can wait. Sometimes the player says yes. BUT, if the player says no, the trainer has to be called. The trainer then decides if its an acute condition warranting immediate treatment.
As long as they are gonna allow MTO's, the chair umpires can't play doctor and decide when and if treatment can occur.

It was eval time plus 2 three minute medical timeouts. Again, legal and not the chair umpires call to allow or not.

Ughhh! That was total bs! Azarenka just admitted that she was just having a panic attack and that's why she called a mto

That was, indeed, a giant steaming load of BS. Too bad they weren't playing in RG, they would have booed her *** off the court, and rightly so. Outrageously awful.

If you've ever had a panic attack you wouldn't ridicule it so easily. I have had several of them and believe me, they are no laughing matter.

I think Azarenka took that MTO because she wanted to cool off. She does not like the heat and I think it was getting to her. She should have had to wait until her own serve to go chill in the AC for 10 minutes.
