I will never cheer for Azarenka. The sooner she loses the #1 ranking the better.
Plus the mother of all MTOs.

Delighted for Vika. Not a great final but well done!

Well, Li didn't win...but she showed some great poise and the more she continues to play on the big stages, she'll get more fans and maybe some big wins as well.

The match itself wasn't that great. But I thought Azarenka was hitting pretty solid late in the 3rd. She had variety in attacking and defending.

I don't think it was dramatic as the commentators (Evert and Mary Joe Fernandez?) were making it out to be. Overall the tennis was sort of ho-hum and it was more sad watching Li get multiple injuries and fade down the stretch.

Seriously, that must be the best introduction for someone ever uttered (especially introducing a woman): "She's battered, she's bruised, and she's quite possibly buggered. Li Na!"

It couldn't be more Aussie. Did he actually mean to say that?

Um.. WTF? She was joking around with Azaranka the whole time, and she looked very relaxed. I didn't see anything close to pouty and sour.

Again. Exactly sir!

As paradoxical as this may sound, Li gave Azarenka ample opportunity to redeem herself in front of worldwide stage.

Vika couldn't have made up for her dumb antics of the other day any better fashion than what she did today - by gutsily surviving & even winning the match in the end.

I still don't like her and don't wish her well.
But looks like she recovered some supporters today.

. . . . .

yes, I think the network will be having a word to sandy...
he has been around ...A WHILE!

But having written that maybe he just caught the crowd's mood:
Li Na was exhausted...just holding on.
She kept picking herself up though...in Oz that is really prized.

Watch the replay when Azarenka is holding the trophy, and the rest are standing to your left on screen.

I don't know if it's a cultural thing or something, because I remember Hewitt yelling "Bugger" during a rally in the 2010 Hit for Haiti and nobody batted an eyelid.

I've always seen it as a polite alternative to other expletives, it wasn't until I got told off at work for saying it that I realised other people don't like it

Because she should have been beaming after serious injury scares and losing what might be her last slam final? Get real.

Yeah - I think in the UK a lot of people say, "oh, bugger" and it has largely had its offensiveness neutralised.

Using bugger as a verb, though, in the context that Sandy Roberts did, is just bizarre! Especially bearing in mind he was standing next to Margaret Court, who has been a very vocal critic of the LGBT community in Australia!

Absolutely hilarious though how he ended up saying that.

This was an awful, at times embarrassing, match. The scoreline looks like its been an intense, tight match. It was filled with errors, switch of momentum for ever 2 points. The level of play was horrid for the most part. Really bad display of tennis from both player. Azarenka was just "less bad".

Funny, to listen to certain members around here, one would think she's going to be a force at the majors for some time to come.

She is not finished, she has had some of the best results in her career in the past few months since hiring Rodriguez. She should go on and have a pretty good year if she is motivated to do so.

Buggered means 'tired' in the colloquial and it also means what you think it might.

How Australians live with such semantic ambiguity is a mystery, but they mostly naively think tired when they hear the word.

It's a shame Li got injured, her movement was clearly hindered by the end. Eventually the cheater won. Li had the game to beat her but just couldn't make it.
