Default Stringing natural gut

I'm taking the plunge and splurging on a half-set of Babolat VS gut. I've only strung multis and polys on my APD. Anything special I need to do when stringing gut? Planning to put it on mains, with RPM Blast cross, using Alpha Pioneer DC Plus dropweight. Thx.

Just take your time and avoid kinking it and you'll be fine.

Stringing the mains is a bit easier than stinging the crosses with natural gut. however when you pull the RPM do it very slowly are the RPM will go thru the coating on the gut.

Default Gut

I think it mandatory that you also prestretch gut before you start.

I do this by clamping one end in a vise and using my starting clamp on the other end to put about 40 lbs of pull on its full length for about 30 t0 45 seconds.

This is just one way. Lots of others.

The rationale for this is that the prestretch will keep the gut from loosening up a significant amount when you begin to play with it.

I string gut occasionally. Prestretching is a good idea.

If you are using a poly cross, try to enlarge one of the cross holes large enough so you tie off the first cross to another cross. If you tie off that first cross to one of the gut mains, you may snap the gut.

Same goes for the last cross. Make sure you tie it off onto another cross.

Also, your RPM blast is going to cut through your gut mains like butter, so don't count on it lasting too long.
