Yes, Murray played extremely well and Federer served terribly but Murray's luck certainly didn't hurt.
Murray wasn't lucky, he was simply played well. If it were Fed hitting those shots you wouldn't say it was luck.

If Murray hesitated, that's well within his rights and I'd say pretty normal when a ball lands on the line or close to it. If it affected Fed's concentration, I don't think it's because Murray deliberately tried to throw him off.

Murray had it right. Fed fired himself up with that moment and raised his game. They can take it as big boys. I just wish Murray was more gentlemanly at the handshake but that's a minor thing.

End of the day, storm in a teacup as the Brits like to say.

Ignore BP. Sampras used to be his guy, now Fed is. I remember his Fed bashing days when he hadn't yet crossed 14 slams.

You lost me there. What did Murray do at the handshake? I didn't notice anything special.

Federer was lucky to win 2 sets. it should have been a straight set demolition. but sometimes players do get lucky and fed was able to eke out 2 sets he shold have lost.

he was ahead in the first TB throughout the whole thing. I know Murray made a mistake with the overhead but still. 4th set it was all fed in the tb

Yes bro, he was so lucky that he kept hitting his shots in, just like Kobe, MJ, and LeBron get lucky over and over again when they make their jumpshots, am I right? Luck is a function of something happening over and over again, not something that happens one or two times (that's skill).

Idiot Fed fans are as sore of losers as the donkey they support.

Come on I'm the biggest Fed fan, Murray played great, he AIMED for the lines and got it. Fed just played tired, unforced errors and no serve, that's why he lost.

He's won 17 grand slams. He's earned the right to do anything he wants.

Heck, if he started every match against Murray by kicking him as hard as he could in the nose, I don't think anyone (even Murray) would complain.

Murray deserves this win... Is this turning into a rivalry*?

I think the high level of tennis Murray was playing is starting to get to Federer. Especially after their last few important matches against one another (Wimbledon, Olympics, etc...). It must be annoying for him to have another player who will test his tennis and threaten him at slams. It means he has to raise his level of tennis yet again. So you start to see the competitive side of Roger, it's not always pretty.

Still, it's amusing how puritanical people are about this, as if we don't know what goes through one's mind during a tennis match, or that we haven't heard these words on court before.

Question:
What will happen when Murray eventually tries to Roger with the tennis ball at the net, Lendl style?!

_ _ _ _
* Obviously there is no comparison in terms of achievements or impact on tennis, but Murray is now one of the few guys who can give Roger a hard time on most surfaces and has shown that he is beatable. Murray's tennis is that good now.

There's no rivalry here. I doubt Murray will lose again to fed. That's not a rivalry, that's a rabbit. Fed is now Murray's rabbit.

That's an odd prediction. Federer beat Murray in straight sets just a couple months ago.

2013 is a new year. What I saw last night was enough for me to pass judgement. Don't get excited, we're all entitled to our opinion

I also have a hunch that Murray may never lose to Fed on hard again. Fed is losing ground on hard. He doesn't just lose to Djoko. He loses to Nadal, Murray, Delpo, Berd. I think every passing season, the list is gonna get longer.

Your % on clay is insane. We've all seen what Fed did on red clay last year...
