I going to miss Federer.
He brings a whole different skillset to a match, which makes the match greater than the sum of its parts. His artistry and elegance will be irreplaceable. I found a lot of the final dull - two baseline sluggers going at it on a slow court with little variation. Djokovic and Murray are both fine players but the spectacle was less than overwhelming for me. Tennis isn't what it used to be (and I'm talking about variety of styles and court speeds) and it's going to get a whole lot less interesting when the GOAT retires. |

Well he is not gone yet. We still have him for a few more years, and I personally think the Eagle is going to bring it in the other majors!!!!

This is how people feel when two grinders at similar skill level play each other.

The 2 best AO finals in recent time were Nadal/Fed 2009 and Djoko/Nadal 2012. I guess there's something exciting about Nadal
The 3 finals with Murray have been somehow less intense and the end of the 2013 one was lopsided probably due at least in part to blisters. It happens. |

I liked watching the djoko murray final.. I think its fun to watch longer points when two guys are grinding it out. Maybe because thats the way I actually play I could be a little bias but i do like watching longer more consistent points.

Djokovic/Nadal was a grindfest from the baseline. 2 guys terrified of trying to end points so they stayed glued to the baseline waiting for the other guy to break down. |

No idea what you're talking about. Those were 2 magnificent matches. Pure classics.

What's your favorite AO final of the last 5 years? Do you have one or do you feel equally grumpy about all of them?

The 2012 AO Final was one of the best matches of all time.

I watched it from start to finish.
Liked it, two similar players using their strengths regardless of other's weaknesses. DJ employed more strategy..wide serve, expecially 2nds, drop shots, much more coming in. Murray seemed to be winning until he body broke down, frustrating him to mistakes and going for more than he'd like. I hate both styles, but can admire the application. |

The finals have been underwhelming at the AO but Nadal/Djokovic was the best of the past 5 years because of the drama involved even though both players were terrified to trying to come to net. Just endless brutal rallies. It was ridiculous. The court speed has become a real problem for baseliners.

"court speed"...
This latest AO had the fastest court speed ever, and net play by both players paid huge dividends. |

Most finals involving Murray.. Outside of the USO last year, every slam final hes been in, his level has been RUBBISH
And even at the USO Last year, he still blew a 2 set lead. |

it's the first time I did not finish watching an Ozzie open final.
So boring, just exchanges of bh and fh, sometimes a dtl and that's it. May be I should watch the tabletennis then. |

Even I must admit, I watched the first 2 sets then found myself on my laptop, only looking up every few points. I just wanted to see some aggression at some point from them.

Well they were definitely being aggressive at times. The problem is they are probably the 2 best defenders in the world right now.

How can a slam final where the winner hit 61 ue in 4 sets be considered a classic? This match was a huge dud.
