Question Level of play by underdog: Wawrinka vs Rosol

I'm not asking who is better player because the answer is obvious. I ask for the level of play in those two matches, Wimbledon 2012 2R and AO 2013 4R

rosol is the worst player ever. to manage a win over the absolute best player ever is the much bigger achievement. a very competent wawrinka's loss to djokovc, spectacular of a match as it was, doesn't compare and wasnt as unexpected.

Wawrinka should have lead 2 sets to none in that match but he choked couldnt finish the job in the 5 set as well where he had tons of chances.Performance wise Warwinka is still better than Russel even he lost because Djokovic 100 percent fit in that match and Nadal wasnt.

Rosol was hitting everything as hard as he could in that fifth set and somehow wasn't missing. That's a recipe for the wildest of unforced errors 99.9% of the time, but for some reason, on that day, Rosol just couldn't seem to miss. Wawrinka was great in his match with Djokovic, though.

Rosol - and by some distance.

I recently watched that 5th set again. It was something else.

Overall I'd say Wawrinka, but Rosol's 5th set trumps everything. That was amazing stuff.

I believe Rosol hit 20 winners to 2 unforced errors in the fifth set.

Wawrinka was even better in first set I think

All this is speculation, which makes for great conversation, but let's not forget that there is only one certainty in life. it is that Rafa is on his way to Chile and that it is finally time for some exciting tennis compared to the mediocre and boring stuff we had to put up with in the AO.

Rosol just closed his eyes and slapped at the ball as hard as he could, it was an absolute fluke but that 5th set was probably one of the highest levels any player has reached.

Rosol could have hit winners with both eyes closed that day

Rosol missed a lot. Some were quite embarrassing.

I didn't think Rosol even played that good. Nadal just kept hitting all of his shots to mid-court.

I don't recall too many misses in the fifth set. He was teeing off on everything. Nadal was kind of lucky the score was as close as 6-4 because Rosol certainly had chances to make it more lop-sided.

Those stats are not correct. Here's the stats straight from Wimbledon:

http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/score...11/1232ms.html

Rosol:

Aces: 22
Winners: 65
UE: 29
Total Points: 139

Rosol won 65% of his points with either a flat-out winner or an ace. That is absolutely sickening. Keep in mind, Nadal only at 19 UE. That means more than 30 additional of Rosol's points were FORCED ERRORS.

To sum up, Rosol won 87% of his points on Aces, Winners, or Forced Errors. He did this against Rafael Nadal.

I'm not sure if we'll ever see a tennis performance of that magnitude again in history.

Obviously, I separated aces from winners

65-22=43

It's OK, btw those stats about Rosol in fifth set are incredible, lost only one point on first serve, W/UE ratio +18

Rosol would have beaten anyone in tennis history in that last set. That was the most dominant tennis I've ever seen. It wasn't like Nadal was playing badly, he just didn't have a chance.
