Hey guys, I took a break from tennis the past couple of months and returned to the courts today. Was hitting with my partner decently although not at the level I was before the break. Playing a match tomorrow afternoon although I plan to get a hit in the morning. Any tips on how to get back in the groove quickly? (I doubt there's anything that can make me 100%, but just anything will be helpful)

Practice!
No easy answer here. After a layoff, I like to spend some time on the wall working on the basics of my strokes. I would use a ball machine but mine is broken. Also, I will practice a couple of buckets of serves. I would do this 2 times a week. And, I would try to get in 1 or 2 practice matches a week too. |

might not help this time.. but may for your next break...
when i play often, almost everyday there are things that work and that don't... I write down key points in a document, mostly for stroke production, and some strategic stuff. when i come back from a long break, it's a lot easier to get back to full speed. tennis has too much sh1t to remember lol. |

the biggest thing that is going to be off is your anticipation, and movement is going to be weird. start off with playing tennis within the boxes, and not trying to hard. gradually work back. within a solid hitting session you should be able to find your groove.

How is your fitness? did you get exercise the past few months?
Go for a run, cycle a bit or do laps in a pool. Long breaks with no exercise will leave your movement on the court impaired and you will get tired and lose concentration more quickly. No stamina for a match.

Practice sessions hitting run around forehands and backhands against paceless balls, whether tossed, fed, from a ball machine, or on your own if those are not availble, is always good on a regular basis - better than faster feeds, imo.
