Denver won 3 singles matches, Texas A&M won three singles matches, Texas A&M won the doubles point for a 4-3 win.

The doubles only counts for 1 point. Whoever wins 2 of the 3 doubles matches earns the doubles point. Then, each singles match is worth 1 point.

TAMU won 2 of the 3 doubs, so they earned the doubles point. Then, TAMU won 2, 4 and 6 singles for their other 3 points.

in college tennis, the doubles are plyed first and count collectively as one point, while each singles match also counts as one point.

Small correction in D1 doubles only count as 1 pt total. In all other Divisions they play 9 pt match in which each individual match counts as one.
Believe D1 changed due to many teams utilizing doubles specialists and saving their singles players.

Arrow Thanks

Personally I think each match should count as one point, so there would be a potential 9 points, vs the 7 points in this system.

As someone who is much better at doubles, I find this to be just wrong!

That's how DII scoring is... 9 points. It only makes a difference if there is a doubles sweep

trust me when i say the lone doubles point counts for ALOT in D1 tennis, especially when you have 2 really good teams in the NCAA tournament.

Does anyone know whether a 3rd set tie break is used or when a 3rd set is played fully; I've seen 3rd sets end in 7-5 or 10-7???

If the team match has already been decided before a 3rd set starts more times than not they play a supertiebreak to 10 instead of a full 3rd set. It's ultimately up to the 2 coaches to decide what they want to do.

D1 was 9 pt system until maybe 2002-03??
Believe coaches got rid of the system due to number of doubles specialists used and saved singles players for some teams. Guess the inmates wanted to level the playing field

I have seen many D1 teams win 4-0, 4-1, or 4-2. Can a player, who is losing, request to leave his match unfinished after the outcome of a dual match is decided?

Coaches have to agree whether to play out matches or not, except in tournaments, where main draw matches are never played out in order to rest players for the next round. However, in consolation brackets at tournaments, the coaches can agree to play out the matches if they want. I believe that happened recently at the National Team Indoors.

I remember the old 9 point matches - 6 best-of-3 singles (no 3rd set 10-point tiebreaks) followed by 3 best of-3 doubles. I think the pain problem was that it could take forever to finish a match.

I think the 7-point, doubles-as-one-point solution has served college tennis fairly well.
